Israel presents its new agricultural innovations at 2017 Fresh Agro Int’l Expo

 

The annual 2-day Fresh Agro-Mashov International Agriculture Exhibition in Tel Aviv, one of the biggest int’l expos of its kind in the world, is featuring new produce varieties and an innovative photo-based mobile app that gauges the freshness of fruits & veggies.

Israel is slated to host the 2017 Fresh Agro-Mashov International Agriculture Exhibition this week, one of the biggest international expos of its kind in the world.

Tel Aviv University reveal unseen inscription from First Temple era with new technology

 

Researchers at Tel Aviv University use multispectral imaging technology were able to read additional letters and words in the existing inscription dating back almost 3,000 years, on one side of the clay, and to their surprise, three “new” lines appeared.

Researchers at Tel Aviv University have uncovered a Hebrew inscription on a shard of pottery dating back to the First Temple era (the 11th to 5th centuries BCE) using new multispectral imaging technology, the “Plos One” multidisciplinary scientific journal reported Wednesday.

The shard, discovered decades ago, was believed to have been inscription-free on one side, but the multispectral imaging technology revealed it was used as part of a delivery of supplies to a military unit sent to Tel Arad, west of the Dead Sea. Continue Reading »

Israeli firm files patent application for 3-D “biological ink” for organ printing

 

CollPlant’s bio-ink enables the 3-D printing of tissue and organs, with the aim of providing a solution to the significant need of life saving organs.

The Israeli regenerative medicine company CollPlant has filed a US  to be used in the three-dimensional printing of tissues and organs.

CollPlant’s patent application refers to formulations of bio-ink based on the firm’s rhCollagen (recombinant type 1 human collage), a plant-based technology that mimics human collagen – the main structural protein in connective tissues. By filing the patent, the Ness Ziona-based company expressed hopes of establishing its position as a leader in three-dimensional biological printing and of forming partnerships in the field of organ printing. Israel tech company displays its drone/UAV interception technology

ORAD’s DROM system is the “most capable and cost-effective” system to counter the threat posed by taking control over device’s piloting from hostile UAV operator.

With weaponized drones bringing a whole new assortment of security threats, several companies at the Israel Defense Exhibition in Tel Aviv this week, showcased the latest technology in neutralization and interception of the devices.

ORAD, an Israeli company based in Holon, presented the latest version of its DROM Drone Defense System, which it says can detect approaching drones at more than 3.5 kilometers away and take over the unmanned aerial vehicle, or UAV’s, piloting abilities, neutralize them and land them far from the operator. After record deal, Israel-India agree on $630 million Indian Navy contract

 

Israel Aerospace Industries signed a new deal this week, designed to equip 4 Indian Naval ships with the Barak 8 missile defense system, which is in addition to the $2 billion contract the IAI inked with India in April, the largest arms deal in the history of Israel’s defense industries.

India to Deploy Israeli Air Defense System, Manufacture Both Tavor21 & Galil Assault Rifles

 

Due to tensions along India’s western border, a successful test of the Israeli surface-to-air Python and Derby (Spyder) missile system at Chandipur-on-sea was conducted on Thursday, destroying a British made drone.

The Spyder is set to replace India’s age-old air defense system, the Soviet-era Osa-AKM and 9K35 Strela-10, at six air bases and other critical locations along the western border.

Israeli firm first to be granted license to fly a fully automated drone

Manufactored by an Israeli drone maker, the 7.5 kg quadcopter, called Optimus, is capable of carrying a one kilogram payload at a speed of 36 kilometres per hour for 30 minutes with no human operator.

The sky’s the limit for an Israeli drone maker that says it has recently been granted the first certificate in the world to fly a fully automated drone, with no human operator.

“We just made history…It flies itself, it’s completely automatic and the best metaphor I can give is if tomorrow somebody gets that same certification to operate an autonomous car with no driver…it’s huge,” Airobotics co-founder and CEO Ran Krauss, told Reuters. Continue Reading »

WATCH: David’s Sling officially enters service completing country’s multi-layered missile defense program

 

The Israeli Air Force officially declares the David’s Sling missile defense system operational, as tensions rise on the northern border.
• David’s Sling joins Iron Dome and Arrow’s 2 and 3 systems to support Israel’s multi-layered missile defense measures.

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) officially inaugurated the David’s Sling missile defense system on Monday. The system was designed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and American defense contractor Raytheon.

It is officially operational and functions as a part of Israel’s multi-layered missile defense program.

In this capacity, David’s Sling operates in the layer above the Iron Dome and below the Arrow system.

Israeli-Swiss company sends mini lab designed for experiments in space

 

SpacePharma says its miniature lab is a new way for researchers to work in microgravity for extended periods. Founder Yossi Yamin, “We upload the link with the command files to the lab and the experiment takes place.”

Orbiting the earth at more than 500 kilometers (300 miles), a tiny satellite with a laboratory the size of a tissue box is helping scientists carry out experiments that take gravity out of the equation.

The technology was launched into space last month by SpacePharma, a Swiss-Israeli company.

2,000 year-old ‘Emperor’s Road’ discovered, ancient coins unearthed

 

Approximately 1.5 kilometers long and 6 meters wide with inset pavement stones, the Roman period road, along with the ancient coins were unearthed by students, under the supervision of the Israel Antiquities Authority.

A wide and well-preserved 2,000-year-old road dating to the Roman period was unearthed last month during archaeological excavations carried out by the Israel Antiquities Authority and students near Beit Shemesh.

The dig, located just off of Highway 375, was conducted prior to laying a water pipeline to Jerusalem at the initiative of the  water corporation Mei Shemesh.

New Israel-US partnership opens cannabis production lab in New Mexico

 

The manufacture of smokeless, accurately dosed cannabis medication, “with an equal THC – CBD ratio,” is now being produced to treat a wide variety of illnesses, according to the 2 partners’ ‘joint’ statement (no pun intended).

An Israeli and New Mexican company have joined forces to launch the first-ever pharmaceutical cannabis production lab in the United States.

The Lod-based Panaxia Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. and the Albuquerque, New Mexico-based Ultra Health have opened a facility in Bernalillo, New Mexico, that will manufacture smokeless, accurately dosed cannabis medication in a variety of delivery methods, the companies announced this week in a joint statement. Israel Missile Defense Organization upgrades Iron Dome for maximum efficiency (VIDEO)

 

Watch: Seeking to augment the Iron Dome’s capabilities, since its last upgrade was in 2015, Israel’s Ministry of Defense succeeded in improving the technology behind the country’s anti-missile system.

An upgraded version of the Iron Dome missile defense system has passed a series of complex tests in recent days, improving the system’s capabilities.

According to a statement released by the Defense Ministry, the Israel Missile Defense Organization, which is responsible for the development of Israel’s multilayered defense system, in conjunction with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the main contractor of the Iron Dome system, carried out a number of experiments using American-made components in the course of the missile interception tests for the first time. EU awards Israel’s Technion €7.7 million for extending food shelf-life project

 

The three year project aims at improving nanotechnology-based antimicrobial packaging for perishable foods, thus enhancing food safety and reducing food waste caused by early spoilage.

The European Union recently awarded €7.7 million to the international NanoPack Project, led by the Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology, to develop a solution for extending food shelf life. NanoPack is funded as part of HORIZON 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
