Israel moves to decriminalize cannabis for personal use

 

Minister Erdan explained that under the new policy, police would focus enforcement of laws against marijuana use in public spaces, not people’s homes, saying, “The goal of the plan is to prevent significant harm to regular people who have no criminal past.”

Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan on Thursday announced that he would move to decriminalize the personal use of cannabis – which would make Israel, already at the forefront of medical marijuana research, the first country in the Middle East or Africa to decriminalize the substance.

Israel Air Force unveils joint Israel-US ballistic missile interceptors

 

WATCH: The Arrow system, developed and produced by Israeli Aerospace Industries in partnership with Boeing, was transferred to an undisclosed air force bases in Israel to become operational after successful testing by both Israel and the United States.

The Israeli army on Wednesday received new ballistic missile interceptors that significantly upgrade the Jewish state’s aerial defense systems in the face of “emerging threats,” the defense ministry said.

The Arrow 3 interceptor, designed to shoot down missiles above the atmosphere, was handed to air force bases in Israel after successful testing by Israel and the United States at the end of 2015. Continue Reading »

Ancient Roman theater discovered overlooking the Sea of Galilee, in northern Israel

 

The gate, which is nearly excavated, likely bore the bronze mask of Pan that was found in one of the gate towers, leading archeologists to believe the theater hosted rituals honoring one of the gods of the Greco-Roman pantheon.

An ancient Roman theater discovered during an excavation by the University of Haifa at Hippos, an archeological site overlooking the Sea of Galilee, may support the hypothesis that the facility was used for religious ceremonies, instead of entertainment.

Record number of organ transplants in Israel for 2016

 

Hospitals throughout Israel saved 504 lives in 2016 attributed to organ transplants, compared with 433 in 2015.
• 1,116 patients still waiting for organ transplants, most of them needing a liver, kidney or heart.
• 61% of families approached about donating a dead loved one’s organs agreed.

A record 504 organ transplants were performed in Israel in 2016, a significant increase from the 433 in 2015, according to data from the National Transplant Center. Chinese invest $20 million in Israeli ‘smart clothing’ startup

Israeli startup HealthWatch Technologies, which develops cardiac monitoring garments, announced Monday a $20 million investment by Chinese company Yiling, which specializes in Chinese medicine and is now in the process of branching out into conventional medicine.

According to the financial daily Globes, the investment puts HealthWatch’s value at $65 million.

Intel launches 7th generation processors designed & developed in Israel

 

As well as being energy-saving, Intel’s latest Israel developed processor provides record-breaking performance rates and are the strongest, fastest processors available to the public.

Intel announced on Tuesday the official launch of its full line of advanced seventh generation computer processors. According to Intel’s Israel division, the majority of development and design for the new high-performance processors came from the company’s Haifa development center.

Unique 3,800 yr-old jug designed with human sculpture unearthed near Tel Aviv

 

The students that participate in the excavation of the unique pottery vessel are part of a new training curriculum, which seeks to connect them with the past, and help secure archaeologists of the future.

A rare and unusual 3,800-year-old jug from the Middle Bronze Age, featuring a human sculpture, was recently unearthed during an excavation in the city of Yehud, near Tel Aviv, with the assistance of area students, the Israel Antiquities Authority announced on Wednesday.

Israel Military Industries held live artillery systems demonstration for buyers from 17 countries

 

IMI Systems demonstrated various types of advanced weapon systems for land, air, and naval forces, including the Magic Spear, a new 160mm precision guided rocket, a larger 155mm Artillery shell, as well as a 120 kg warhead that is fitted to the long-range EXTRA missile.

Israeli discovery could allow early Alzheimer diagnosis with simple blood test

 

The Tel Aviv University researchers’ study, published in the journal Translational Psychiatry, describe a gene that codes for a particular protein, leading to neurotransmission. As a result, future therapies should be able to halt its progression.

A recent discovery by researchers at Tel Aviv University may soon change the way Alzheimer’s disease is diagnosed and treated.

The study, published in the journal Translational Psychiatry, describe a gene that codes for a particular protein that researchers discovered.

The protein then turns off signals that it normally produces.

Israeli missile boats modified to repel naval cyber ‘intrusions’ by foreign military vessels

 

Israel’s Navy is equipping its missile boats with crews & electronics that will safeguard the country’s shores from probing cyber encroachments.

Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov has recently arrived at the shores of Syria accompanied by its companion vessels. The ships are in the area as a deterrent measure, but also in order to collect intelligence via electronic means. As a response, the Israeli Navy has upgraded its cyber warfare capabilities, placing special crews onto its missile boats.

Netanyahu inaugurated $6 billion Intel production line in Southern Israel

 

PM Netanyahu went to Kiryat Gat to visit Israel’s new Intel production line that created 1,000 new jobs. “This is where the vision of the future comes true in the present,” Netanyahu said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday inaugurated the new Intel production line in Kiryat Gat, in southern Israel, where the American technology giant maintains a semiconductor fabrication plant.

The new, $6 billion production line, was set up with a $300 million government grant, creating 1,000 new jobs.

Ancient gold, silver artifacts discovered at Israeli archeological site

 

Eight months after a 2000yr-old gold coin, minted in Rome, was accidentally found in northern Israel, now a new trove of ancient gold & silver artifacts were discovered at the Tel Gezer archeological site.

A treasure trove of gold and silver objects dating back about 3,600 years from the Canaanite period has been found in the Tel Gezer excavation center.

The Defense Ministry announced Thursday plans to acquire hundreds of Trophy tank protection systems in a deal estimated at hundreds of millions of shekels.

Trophy, also known as Windbreaker, is an active tank protection system designed to intercept and destroy incoming anti-tank missiles and rockets with a shotgun-like blast.
