French President to Jewish Leaders: We will fight anti-Semitism with ‘greatest firmness’

France is boosting security at Jewish religious sites after blanks were fired at a synagogue west of Paris amid renewed concerns about anti-Semitism around the country.

French President Francois Hollande met Sunday with leaders of the country’s Jewish community and pledged to fight extremism and anti-Semitism “with the greatest firmness.”

He said that authorities “in the coming days, in the coming hours” will increase security at Jewish religious sites so they won’t be subject to the kind of attack that targeted a synagogue in the Paris suburb of Argenteuil on Saturday night. Continue Reading »

French police shot dead a suspect during an anti-terrorism raid in the northeastern city of Strasbourg on Saturday that was part of an investigation into a grenade attack last month on a Jewish market, judicial and security sources said.

French officials say DNA on the grenade led them to suspected jihadist cell of young Frenchmen recently converted to Islam.

The US head of the pro-Palestinian group The Free Gaza Movement unleashed a wave of criticism over the last several days because of a Twitter post asserting that Zionists ran concentration camps and murdered Jews.

Greta Berlin, the American co-founder of the group Free Gaza, tweeted on September 30 “Zionists operated the concentration camps and helped murder millions of innocent Jews.”

Jewish Community Center in Malmo, Sweden Bombed

Blast causes no injuries, only damage to community center. Malmo, where Muslim immigrants make up 30%-40% of the population, sees between 50-100 anti-Semitic incidents per year.  In 2010. the number of incidents doubled previous year’s, with 79 complaints filed.

Several eye witnesses told police officers that they saw two vehicles speeding away from the scene immediately after the explosion before dawn Friday.

Senior Jewish Figure Threatened on Streets of Berlin

A Berlin police spokesman said ‘mutual threats’ during the Yom Kippur incident were being investigated, but would not give more details.

“The culprit evidently felt provoked by the sight of a Jewish prayer book,” said Stephan Kramer, general secretary of the Central Council of Jews.

A city police spokesman said “mutual threats” during the Wednesday incident were being investigated, but declined to give more details.

The President of the Central Council, Dieter Graumann, told dpa that “this had the appearance of being an act of racism.” Continue Reading »

A 30 minute video showing anti-Semitic faculty activity at Northeastern University was released by a ‘tolerance organization’.

Americans for Peace and Tolerance (APT) today released a 30 minute video showing how Northeastern Professor Denis Sullivan and other Northeastern faculty abuse academic freedom to promote anti-Israel lies and anti-Semitism as defined by the U.S. State Department.

Sullivan is a tenured professor and director of the Northeastern Middle East Center for Peace, Culture and Development.  The video examines Professor Sullivan’s lectures, invited guests, reading lists and student trips to the Middle East, all of which seem designed to provide students with a one-sided view of the Arab-Israeli conflict. French right-wing politician Marine Le Pen said she supports a ban on wearing kippot in public in addition to a ban on Muslim headscarves.

“Obviously, if the veil is banned, the kippa [should be] banned in public as well,” the French daily Le Monde quoted Le Pen, leader of the National Front, as saying in an interview published on Friday.

Le Pen’s anti-immigrant, anti-Islamist party long has supported a ban on Muslim headscarves, niqabs and burkas.

A schlock softporn director named Alan Roberts has been identified as the director of the film that ridicules Muslims and the prophet Muhammed and has incited violent protests across the Middle East, according to a report by Gawker published Saturday.

Anti-Semitism In Egypt Is Back in Fashion

The Egyptian revolution that overthrew  Mubarak, held great promise &  exposed the challenges facing Egyptian politics & culture. Anti-Semitism, if nothing else, has always been a sign of a deeply damaged culture.

 

 

A travel tip for the international executive class: If you find yourself doing business in Egypt and you feel the urge to insult your interlocutor, 1) try not to insult your interlocutor; and 2) if you must, cast aspersions on the chastity of the person’s mother or sister. This insult will be taken hard, but it may eventually be forgiven.

The Palestinian Authority is against the moment of silence at the Olympics to commemorate the Israeli athletes murdered at the Munich Olympics in 1972. According to the headline in the official PA daily, “Sports are meant for peace, not for racism.”

The 11 members of the Israeli Olympic Delegation that were murdered by Palestinian terrorists.

According to Jibril Rajoub, President of the Palestinian Olympic Committee:

“Sports are meant for peace, not for racism… Sports are a bridge to love, interconnection, and spreading of peace among nations; it must not be a cause of division and spreading of racism between them [nations].”

Israel’s Olympic team has decided to respond to the BBC’s assertion that Jerusalem is not Israel’s capital, by preparing a video in which Israeli athletes are seen saying they are proud to represent Israel “and its capital Jerusalem.”

The British broadcast authority, which has often been charged with bias against Israel, has come under fire for listing “East Jerusalem” as the capital for the “Palestinian Olympic team” while leaving Israel listed without a capital.

After Israel and Jews around the world complained, the BBC partly corrected its mistake and stated that Israel’s “seat of government is Jerusalem” while still omitting Jerusalem as the capital. Continue Reading »

Clinton reaffirmed her support for Israel and the Jewish people at the Holocaust Museum, stating: “When heads of states and religious leaders deny the Holocaust, we must not let their lies go unanswered…we must respond when criticism of Israeli government policy crosses over to anti-Semitism.”
