Warring Palestinians in Lebanon turn refugee camp into war-zone, 10 dead, 50 injured

 

Israel Defense Minister:  World’s hypocrisy and double standard seen again as Lebanese Army allows ongoing clashes between religious militants and Palestinians in the middle of Ein el Hilweh, causing death, devastation and scores injured.

Approximately 10 people were killed and 50 wounded in ongoing confrontation in the Ein El Hilweh refugee camp in Lebanon between Palestinian factions and Islamists affiliated with the Salafi movement. Recently, an attempt was made to reach a cease-fire, and now the person who heads an armed group and is affiliated with the Salafis is being pursued.

Saudi Arabia echoes Israeli warnings against Iran at Security Conference

 

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Turkey’s foreign minister joined Avigdor Lieberman and the Saudi Foreign Minister urging the international community to punish Iran’s aggression and activities that are undermining regional stability.

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Monday slammed France’s peace summit scheduled for next month, calling it “a modern day Dreyfus trial.”

“There’s only one difference,” he asserted, “this time, instead of the defendant being one Jew, it will be the entire nation of Israel and the State of Israel.”

US President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team has urged Israel to bridle its overt excitement over their candidate’s surprise victory and what it could mean for the Jewish settlement enterprise.

“We’ve been receiving official messages from Trump’s team. They’re expecting us to act modestly,” Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman told a press conference on Wednesday. “There are people in his close circle that we know well, they’re telling us ,‘Wait. Don’t set facts on the ground.’”

Israel’s Defense Minister calls to shun Joint List for boycotting Peres’ funeral

 

Joint List Chairman slams Lieberman’s initiative to have gov’t Knesset members walk out during Knesset speeches by Joint List MKs because of their refusal to attend or participate in Shimon Peres’s funeral.

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has requested from Coalition Leader MK David Bitan to sanction a decision demanding that the coalition boycott the Joint List in the Knesset.

The initiative was formed shortly after the Joint List presided over a boycott of the funeral of Israel’s former President Shimon Peres.

Speaking to students at Ariel University, in the West Bank settlement of Ariel, Liberman said that “the model of land for peace has failed, that’s why we speak of land and population swaps.”

The Ministerial Committee for Legislation is set to discuss on Sunday a controversial proposal from former Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman that would enable courts to sentence convicted terrorists to death.

If passed, the legislation would enable military courts to sentence terrorists convicted of attacks “intended to kill citizens for political, national, religious, or ideological purposes.”

The law would also require only a majority, rather than a unanimous decision, to sentence terrorists to death. It would also prohibit reducing the sentence once it has been finalized. Continue Reading »
