Israel’s Arrow 3 missile defense tested successfully

Israel’s new Arrow anti-missile interceptor is designed to neutralize the Iranian Shihab 3 missiles and other similar long-range projectiles at high altitude.

IDF sources report that the U.S. funded system is set to become operational in 2016.

 

 

The Ministry of Defense carried out its first successful test of the Arrow 3 missile defense interceptor on Monday morning, firing it into space from a coastal military launching pad in central Israel.

Set to become operational in around 2016, the Arrow 3 missile defense system operates in space, traveling at twice the speed of a tank shell to leave the atmosphere.

IDF reservists attack Oscar-nominated film as ‘incitement’

The Israeli NGO Consensus recently launched an online campaign to present a counter-narrative to what it calls “the ongoing incitement against IDF soldiers in the movie ‘5 Broken Cameras,'” as stated by the organization in a statement Sunday.

Consensus, which describes its activists as “Guardians of the IDF spirit,” claims to be a non-political organization; its membership is comprised of hundreds of reserve and non-commissioned IDF officers.

IDF Officer Busted for Permitting ‘Harlem Shake’ Video Upload

Company commander received a 21 days jail sentence, and the cameraman gets 14 days for lewd video that “runs against IDF values.”

The commander of the Keren battalion in the Artillery Corps court-martialed an officer and an enlisted man under his command for recording and uploading a short video of soldiers performing the “Harlem Shake.”

idf Harlem shakeChannel 2 reported that the company commander who authorized the uploading of the video to the internet received a 21-day jail sentence and was dismissed from his command position.

Best friends from New York successfully complete IDF training together

Just a year ago David Cohen, 18, & David Aharon, 18 flew to Israel to enlist in the IDF. last week, Cohen’s & Aharon’s parents flew in from NY to see their sons receive their Golani unit pin.

Both are named David, both grew up in New York, they were in the same grade from pre-school onward and they are best friends. A year ago, they both flew to Israel to enlist in the Israel Defense Forces as lone soldiers. Last week, Corporals David Aharon, 18, and David Cohen, 18, completed nearly a year of rigorous training and joined the ranks of the illustrious Golani Infantry Brigade.

Violent clashes erupted on Saturday near the West Bank village of Qusra, south of Nablus, between villagers and Jewish settlers from nearby Jewish outpost. IDF forces arrived on the scene and employed crowd-control measures.

IDF & Residents Ready for a possible ‘Volatile’ Golan Heights

The conflict in Syria has drawn many Druze residents of the Golan closer to Israel. More & more have requested Israeli citizenship.

The IDF is prepared for a new reality in the Golan as Syria continues to descend into chaos, Brigadier-General (ret.) Kobi Marom told Arutz Sheva.

“The IDF has prepared for the new reality that will be in the Golan,” he said. “There are fears of an escalation, and serious concern that if there is violence [in the region] the target will not be Assad.”

Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu proposal submitted to  Habayit Hayehudi & Yesh Atid as part of coalition negotiations.

Prof. Eugene Kandel on Saturday publicly presented the main points of his proposal for distributing the burden of military service more equally. The proposal was submitted last week to Yesh Atid and Habayit Hayehudi by Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu during the latter’s coalition negotiations with the two parties.

Seven Syrians hurt in battles between Syrian army forces and rebels were taken to the Ziv Medical Center in Safed, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit confirmed Saturday. One of the men is in critical condition.

Fighting in SyriaThe seven made their own way to the border area in the northern Golan Heights.

“An IDF force administered medical care to the wounded men near the border fence and they were taken for further treatment,” a statement said.

The Environmental Protection Ministry will impose NIS 3,830,469 worth of financial sanctions on the IDF due to the army’s negligence with respect to asbestos removal, the ministry announced on Monday evening.

asbestosDespite the fact that the Environment Ministry had ordered the army to evacuate an asbestos hazard from an area adjacent to Beersheba’s Natan Shalid base seven months ago, the IDF has failed to do so, according to the ministry.

Instead, panels laden with asbestos have sat exposed to the open air and have caused health hazards to soldiers, the ministry explained.

IDF foils building of another illegal Palestinian outpost

Some 20-30 Palestinian and foreign activists tried to construct a new Palestinian outpost overnight, south of Mount Hebron in the West Bank.

However, IDF troops arrived at the scene and confiscated their equipment, the activists reported.

The troops took down the only tent the activists had managed to set up and stopped them from any further activities in the area.

Israel seeks 6-8 American V-22 Osprey aircraft

Israel would like to obtain 6 to 8 of the helicopter-plane hybrid. The cost: $69 million per aircraft. The United Arab Emirates & Canada are also interested.

Israel is seeking a deal with the United States for the supply of several V-22 Osprey aircraft, which can take off and land like helicopters and fly at a cargo plane’s velocity.

IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Benny Gantz, currently visiting Washington, was meant to board such an aircraft in a US army base south of Washington.

Two men arrested for aiding 2 fugitives flee to Syria

The 2 men arrested, residents of Jaljulia & Tamra, confessed to helping 2 relatives escape to Syria. One of the men was serving a 25-year murder sentence.

Two men from the Israeli Arab towns of Jaljulia and Tamra were arrested by the Israel Defense Forces on Monday evening near the border fence with Syria on the Golan Heights in northern Israel, Army Radio reported on Tuesday.

NGO and IDF Prevents Environmental Catastrophe by Arabs in Samaria

The Israel Civil Authority, along with the assistance of the IDF have cleared out 20,000 cubic tons of garbage from an illegal Arab dump in Samaria.

The Civil Authority and the IDF has cleared out 20,000 cubic tons of trash from an illegal Arab dump in Samaria, after ongoing appeals from an environmental organization. The Yarok Achshav (“Green Now”) group expressed its satisfaction at the resolution of the issue, preventing further damage to the environment by Arabs in the area.

The site of the dump, near the Arab village of Kafr Duma, was situated right atop a well that tapped directly in into the large aquifer that runs under Samaria. Continue Reading »
