The United States has agreed to release Iranians accused of aiding the Tehran regime in the US, and unfreeze billions of dollars in Iranian assets as part of a prisoner exchange with Tehran, a news outlet aligned with the Iranian government reported Sunday afternoon.

A senior Iranian official on Sunday dismissed the United States military buildup in the region, saying that the US wouldn’t dare attack out of fear of Iranian retribution against Israel.

In 2014 Iranian Generals also boasted how it would send an armada of warships into the Gulf of Mexico…but they have yet to arrive.

“Our fleet of warships will be sent to the Atlantic Ocean in the near future and will visit one of the friendly states in South America and the Gulf of Mexico,” Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi was quoted by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency as saying.

Iran will likely use the warships’ visit to Latin America to advance its relationship with its ally Venezuela, a US adversary. And while Iran’s navy poses no real threat when up against the American navy, Khanzadi added that new vessels and submarines will be introduced next year to bolster the country’s fleet. U.S. administration officials admitted to Israeli colleagues that American negotiators greatly underestimated the economic benefits Iran would reap from Geneva’s P5+1 accord.

 

 

Senior officials in the administration of President Barack Obama have conceded over the past few days in conversations with colleagues in Israel that the value of the economic sanctions relief to Iran could be much higher than originally thought in Washington, security sources in Israel told Haaretz.

In official statements by the United States immediately after the agreement limiting Iran’s nuclear program was signed in Geneva between Iran and theF six powers at the end of November it was said that the economic relief Iran would receive in exchange for signing the agreement would be relatively low – $6 billion or $7 billion. In exchange, Rohani would seek the removal the harsh economic sanctions facing the Islamic Republic, according to Der Spiegel, the German weekly news magazine.
