Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this afternoon (Wednesday, 5 July 2017), met with Moshe Holtzberg, whose parents were murdered in the November 26, 2008 terrorist attack on the Mumbai Chabad House. He told them that he misses India; Indian Prime Minister Modi said that his country was open to him.

Prime Minister Netanyahu invited Holtzberg to accompany him on his future trip to India.

Trade between Israel, India up 2,000% since countries established diplomatic relations

Bilateral trade between Israel and India has risen by some 2,000% since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992, growing from $200 million in 1992 to $4.17 billion in 2016, the Economy and Industry Ministry said Tuesday.

Tel Aviv University plans Center for Israel Studies at Mumbai University

 

A conference in New Delhi to mark 25 years since the start of diplomatic relations between Israel & India was originally scheduled to be a one-time event, but was so successful, it will now be held annually.

To mark 25 years since the beginning of diplomatic relations between Israel and India, Tel Aviv University held two joint academic conferences with Indian institutions this year. The first was held at Mumbai University in Mumbai, and the second with Jindal University, held in the capital of New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narenda Modi is expected to undertake the historic first visit by an Indian PM to visit Jerusalem in early July, to highlight the growing bilateral relationship between the countries.

India to Deploy Israeli Air Defense System, Manufacture Both Tavor21 & Galil Assault Rifles

 

Due to tensions along India’s western border, a successful test of the Israeli surface-to-air Python and Derby (Spyder) missile system at Chandipur-on-sea was conducted on Thursday, destroying a British made drone.

The Spyder is set to replace India’s age-old air defense system, the Soviet-era Osa-AKM and 9K35 Strela-10, at six air bases and other critical locations along the western border.

Israel Aerospace Industries signs historic $2Billion missile deal with India

Israel has been cooperating with India in various technologies & military systems, including missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles during the last few years, bringing India and Israel into a uniquely strong and strategic partnership.

Israel Aerospace Industries has been awarded a $2 billion Indian military hardware deal, considered to be “the largest defense contract in Israel’s defense industries’ history.”

IAI announced on Thursday that it has signed a mega-contract worth more than $1.6 billion to provide advanced medium-range surface-to-air missiles (MRSAMs) to the Indian Army. The balance of some $400m. in contracts has been awarded to Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Continue Reading »

India to receive more weapons-capable Heron UAVs from Israel

 

Two years ago, India bought its first armed Heron drone, used for both reconnaissance as well as combat & support roles, and can carry air-to-ground missiles to take out hostile targets.

According to India’s Economic Times, 10 Heron TP-armed drones bought in September 2015 at a cost of $400 million are ready to be delivered to New Delhi once a final payment is completed.

The Heron TPs are Israel Aerospace Industries’s most advanced UAVs with a 40-hour endurance, maximum takeoff weight of 5,300 kg. and a payload of 1,000 kg., according to the Times. Hindustan Times: Israel assisting India’s efforts to augment nuclear capabilities

 

During PM Modi’s visit to meet with PM Netanyahu in Israel later this year, he is not scheduled for a courtesy stopover in the Palestinian territories.
– India’s Hindustan Times editorial also writes, Israel is “uniquely in the world, a partner in the development of India’s nuclear arsenal” and “strategically more trusted by India than any other country.”

India’s largest airline, Air India, announces three weekly direct flights between New Delhi, Tel Aviv to begin in May, to augment the only current direct Israel-New Delhi flights that are via El Al.
• Also, Tus Airways of Cyprus launches its new direct flights from Athens to Haifa.

India’s largest airline, Air India, on Thursday announced plans to launch direct flights between Tel Aviv and New Delhi, saying that it plans to have three weekly flights on the route, which is expected to become operational in May.

India accepts $2.5 billion missile defense deal with Israel

 

The Indian gov’t has accepted a $2.5 billion missile deal, capable of shooting down enemy aircraft at a range of 50-70 kilometers, to replace their country’s aging air defenses.

The Indian government has cleared a $2.5 billion deal for its army to buy a medium-range surface-to-air missile defense system from Israel Aerospace Industries, another step toward signing the contract, Indian media reported on Thursday.
