Jerusalem summons Jordanian ambassador over anti-Israel article

Israel summoned Jordan’s ambassador Thursday to protest an “anti-Israeli” article by a former Jordanian foreign minister, in which he based his argument on a Hitler quote, the foreign ministry said.

Jordan Condemns Israel Over Temple Mount Restrictions

Jordanian officials summoned Israel’s Ambassador to the country to protest ‘Israeli provocations’ on the Temple Mount.

Jordan’s government-controlled Petra news agency said Monday that government officials had called in the Israeli Ambassador to the country to protest the “Israeli provocations” on the Temple Mount Sunday. Israel closed the Mount to members of the Waqf after Arab youths rioted again Sunday, throwing rocks and stones at Israeli police.

Opposition leader Isaac Herzog (Labor) met Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Amman on Monday to discuss the peace process.

“There is an opportunity that won’t repeat itself to reach an arrangement in the Middle East, and a formula must be found to stop the talks from blowing up,” Abdullah said.

Herzog stressed to the Jordanian king that the Labor party, and the rest of the opposition parties, all support the peace process and understand that this opportunity must not be missed. Continue Reading »

Prime Minister of Jordan: ‘I won’t expel Israeli ambassador’

 

 

Jordan’s prime minister escaped a no-confidence vote by parliament Tuesday that was motivated by his government’s allegedly weak response to the killing of a Jordanian judge by Israeli soldiers.

The 150-member lower house renewed its confidence in Prime Minister Abdullah Nsur by an 81-29 vote, with 20 abstentions and 20 MPs absent.

Incensed by the shooting death of judge Raed Zeiter at a border crossing last week, MPs had demanded the government expel the Israeli ambassador and release Jordanian soldier Ahmad Dakamseh, who shot dead seven Israeli schoolgirls in the 1990s.

Israel has been working to temper tensions with Jordan after a Jordanian judge was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers at the Allenby Bridge border crossing on Monday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a formal apology to Jordanian King Abdullah II on Tuesday for the death of Raed Alaa el-Deen Za’eiter.

Israel “regrets the death of the judge and expresses its sympathies to Jordan and its commitment to the peace treaty,” said the statement, adding that Israel would share its preliminary investigation with Jordan and would establish a joint investigation with the Jordanian authorities. Pro-Israel, Jordanian Palestinian sentenced to life in prison, for advocating Jordan is Palestine

 

The British gov’t has granted Mudar Zahran asylum and he reports that a source inside the palace told him that King Abdullah is pushing for control of Jerusalem.

 

 

Mudar Zahran, a Palestinian writer and academic from Jordan who has written op-eds for The Jerusalem Post, was sentenced last week to life in prison with hard labor.

He also says that he has learned that the Jordanian government may seek to have him extradited to Jordan to serve his sentence.

Zahran told the Post in an interview form the UK, where he has sought refuge, that a source inside the palace told him that King Abdullah, on his visit to the US, pushed for control of Jerusalem so that Jordan would become its key ally in the region, even bypassing Israel in importance. Jordan Protest Israel’s Newly Installed Temple Mount CC Security Cameras

Jordan expressed its outraged at Israel’s installation of closed-circuit security cameras following attacks on civilians and Israel Police, accuses Israel of violating Muslim religious freedom.

Jordan, the custodian of Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem, demanded on Tuesday that Israel remove surveillance cameras at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound on the Temple Mount, the AFP news agency reports.

“Jordan rejects Israel’s installation of surveillance cameras on December 8 to monitor waqf officials and worshippers, particularly women,” Information Minister Mohammad Momani told state news agency Petra.

The Kingdom of Jordan, thirsty for water from the huge influx of displaced Syrian refugees, are to get Kinneret water from Israel’s north, in return for supplying desalinated water from Jordan’s soon to be built, southern Aqaba plant.

Israel and Jordan are holding advanced negotiations over water exchanges between the two sides, Ynet has learned.

According to the developing outline, a water desalination plant will be built in Aqaba, and Jordan will supply Israel with the product to be used in the Negev.

Ben Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) graduated its first class of Jordanian and Israeli students who completed a special joint-emergency medicine BA program earlier this year. The first graduating class at the Israel-Jordan Academic Emergency Medicine Collaboration included 54 graduates who spent three years studying emergency medicine and medical response.
