Jordan and Israel sign historic deal to save Dead Sea

The new Two Seas Canal will rehabilitate Dead Sea by pumping water from the Red Sea, provide drinking water alleviating Jordan’s chronic water problems, and produce electricity to power entire project and more.

Jordan and Israel signed a deal on Thursday to build a pipeline to link the Red Sea with the shrinking Dead Sea and combat regional water shortages. The official Petra news agency said that the agreement signed in the Jordanian capital, Amman, would set in motion the implementation of the first phase of a long-awaited project.

A serious security mishap occurred on Saturday morning, as two people succeeded in breaching the Israeli border from Jordan despite IDF preparations, in an incident raising fears about the possibility of foreign terrorists freely infiltrating into the Jewish state.

IDF trackers were dispatched as soon as the breach was identified, reports Walla!, and at the scene they found footprints leading to Highway 90 between Grofit and Yotvata in the Arava region of the Negev to the north of Eilat, in an area just to the east of Ovda Airport.

Israelis protest against Jerusalem’s planned water pipeline to Jordan

Government says channel, costing approximately $15.8 million less than alternative plan, is slated to pass through land of 4 Jordan Valley kibbutzim, and won’t harm their farmland.

 

About 100 Jordan Valley residents held a demonstration on Tuesday to protest a planned pipeline that would convey water from Lake Kinneret to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, claiming that the pipeline will ruin large open areas through which it is slated to pass. Israel is obligated by its bilateral peace agreement to provide water from Lake Kinneret to its neighbor.

Opponents to the plan want the water to be sent to the Jordanians via the existing Jordan River channel, from the Degania dam to the old Naharayim electric power station, and from there to Jordan.

Rumors ran rampant in Jordan over the past few weeks on the nature of the mysterious archeological dig in the city of Ajloun. Many believed the authorities found gold or other treasures, but Jordanian Army Chief of Staff Mashal Mohammad Al-Zaben dropped a bombshell on Tuesday when he revealed what was really found there – hidden Israeli spying devices and explosives.

Israel appoints 1st female envoy to Arab country

Einat Schlein of the foreign ministry was  promoted to post of Ambassador to Jordan along with 11 other appointments made by Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Israel announced its first female ambassador to an Arab country Sunday among a list of 12 new appointments to positions that all required government approval.

Einat Schlein, an employee at the Foreign Ministry for the last 22 years, was named on the list as Israel’s new ambassador to neighboring Jordan, with whom the US and possibly Israel are closely working against the threat of ISIS militants from Iraq and Syria.

PMO orders removal of unauthorized, temporary bridge to Temple Mount’s Mughrabi Gate

 

On August 6, PM Binyamin Netanyahu made it clear at a press conference that Israel had no intention of altering the status quo on the Temple Mount.

The Prime Minister’s Office ordered the dismantling of a foot bridge under construction from the Western Wall Plaza to the Temple Mount to supplement the  Mughrabi Bridge, government officials confirmed Wednesday.

Israel & Jordan Sign Natural Gas Deal for 15 Years

 

Noble Energy announced on Wednesday afternoon, that if the signed letter of intent progresses into a full-fledged deal, the Leviathan partners would likely deliver the gas supply across a border location between Israel & Jordan,

The 621-billion cubic meter Leviathan gas reservoir, off of Haifa, is expected to begin flowing in 2017.

On behalf of the Leviathan natural gas reservoir partners, Noble Energy signed a non-binding letter of intent on Wednesday to supply about 45 billion cubic meters natural gas to Jordan’s National Electric Power Company over a 15-year period.

2 Israelis & British national arrested in Jordan

 

The father of one of the arrested Israelis says a Palestinian police officer, originally from Jenin, was taking revenge for administrative arrests in Israel by falsely accusing the 3 of posing as a ‘security’ threat.

Two Israelis and a British national were arrested in Jordan on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday. According to some reports, the three were released on house arrest at a hotel in Amman, while other reports say they are still in custody.
