“We do not believe that the way to negotiate peace is by focusing on only one issue, in this case the construction of settlements, when clearly the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians is so deeply complex,” said the spokesman. Continue Reading »

UK follows US interpretation of ‘antisemitism’ in new pro-Israel policy

In following America’s lead, Britain’s new definition of antisemitism looks like the UK is returning to its overtly pro-Israel policies of years long gone.

By Tsvi Sadan

The love-hate relationship between the UK and Israel is well known.

One could dwell on the many setbacks of British policy toward the Jewish state. The 1937 partition plan proposed by the Peel Commission, the infamous 1939 White Paper that restricted Jewish immigration to mandatory Palestine, and the present anti-Israel vitriolic from Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

These are sufficient examples of British hate toward the Israel.

But Britain has another side, the one that has produced the 1917 Balfour Declaration that proved foundational to the rebirth of the Jewish state. Continue Reading »

As the United Kingdom’s fateful referendum on whether to leave the European Union draws nearer, Prime Minister David Cameron is making his final push to convince voters to reject a “Brexit” – or British exit from the EU.

While the most prominent arguments for and against have centered on the economy, as well as questions of British sovereignty and the EU’s eye-watering (and expensive) bureaucracy, some within the Jewish community – particularly in Israel but also in the UK itself – have been weighing what a Brexit would mean for Israel.
