Arabs: Keep Marathon Runners Away from Temple Mount

The PLO threatened Israel not to use the upcoming annual Jerusalem Marathon as an attempt to “Judaize” Jerusalem

With the Jerusalem Marathon set to take place March 1, the Palestinian Authority is warning Israel not to use the race to “Judaize” the city, presenting it as a “unified capital of Israel,” said the chairman of the PLO’s action committee, Ahmed Qureia. Qureia is also the head of the “Al-Aqsa Department” in the PA, and on Sunday he warned Israel to ensure that marathoners stay away from the Temple Mount, where the mosque is located.

Jerusalem under ‘High’ terror alert

Police, Firefighters and Magen David Adom emergency personal placed under high level of alert after warning of possible terrorist attack

Security forces in Jerusalem raised their alert level on Tuesday following a general warning of a possible terror attack in the capital.

Police, firefighters and Magen David Adom emergency crews were instructed to raise their alert level.

Jerusalem Fire Department spokesman Asaf Abras said the order to raise the level of alertness was given by Jerusalem District police chief in light of a security warning.

Arabs Stone Kindergarten, Arabs shoot into Bus

Sunday saw a number of incidents in which inciting Arabs rioted, threw rocks at kindergarten children and shot at Israelis traveling in a bus.

Arab terrorists fired on a bus traveling in the Binyamin region Sunday evening. There were no injuries reported.

The number 172 bus, traveling from Jerusalem to the town of Anatot, was fired at as it passed near the Arab town of Hizme, north of Jerusalem. The bus was damaged, with several of the bullets piercing the bullet-proof windows.

Police closed the road immediately after the shooting was reported, and began a search for the culprits. Continue Reading »

Judaism’s Temple makes appearance as election topic

Amid all the pre-election arguing over diplomatic, security and economic issues, the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem made a brief appearance as a topic of fiery debate between two Israeli candidates.

The episode began when Israel’s Channel 2 News in its Friday evening coverage of the election aired a video showing a member of the right-wing Jewish Home party purportedly stating that it “would be incredible” if the Dome of the Rock were to be blown up and a Jewish Temple rebuilt in its place. Snow Photos & Video Exposé: Jerusalem of White

Schools throughout the Jerusalem area are closed Thursday, with buses & light rail not running. Snow expected to fall until afternoon.

Forget Jerusalem of gold, because after the snowfall that began Wednesday and is expected to last until Thursday afternoon, the city should be called Jerusalem of white.

Residents of the capital woke up to more than 10 cm of snow which accumulated overnight. The snow left its mark throughout the center of the city, but the higher neighborhoods, such as French Hill and Mount Herzl, experienced the most amount of accumulation

Palestinian Authority: Israel Planning to Build its Holy Temple

Official with the Al-Aqsa Mosque says, “The construction of the false Temple on the Temple Mount is closer than ever before,”

The head of manuscripts at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Najeh Bkeirat, has accused Israel of trying to “Judaize” the Temple Mount by building a new Holy Temple.

Speaking on January 4 to the Palestine journal, which is affiliated with the Hamas terrorist group, Bkeirat claimed that “the construction of the false Temple is closer than ever before.”

Bkeirat claimed in the interview that an analysis of Jerusalem’s development plans finds there is an intention to Judaize the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and within this framework build the Temple on its ruins and to then reduce the number of Arab residents in the city. Continue Reading »

Approval granted, Gilo gets 1,200 new housing units

Despite int’l criticism, new building plans in Gilo, Jerusalem’s southern neighborhood, just beyond ‘Green Line’ approved.

The Interior Ministry announced Monday that the Jerusalem District Zoning Committee has decided to promote the construction of 1,200 housing units in the capital’s Gilo neighborhood.

Gilo is located in south Jerusalem, beyond the Green Line.

The decision followed a hearing on several objections filed against the plan – some by Gilo residents.

The Interior and Housing ministries said that once the final approval is given, construction tenders for the area will be issued. Continue Reading »

An Arab taxi driver was shot in the leg Sunday after apparently trying to run over a Border Guard officer.

Both men are in mild condition. The officer was treated on site and the driver was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.

The police are investigating the incident as a nationalistically motivated attack.

According to available details, the driver, a 39-year-old man from the Jabel Mukaber neighborhood in southeast Jerusalem, arrived at an east Jerusalem police station and rammed into a delivery van trying to exit the compound. Continue Reading »

The Palestinian Authority will not allow Israeli plans to build in the E1 area of Jerusalem to be realized, PA President Mahmoud Abbas said Saturday, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Abbas said the building plans are “a red line and we will not allow it to happen.”

Speaking at the opening session of the Fatah Advisory Council entitled “statehood and international legitimacy,” the PA president said “we are holding contacts on all levels to stop this Israeli project that aims to sabotage the peace process,” as quoted by Wafa.

Israel’s PM: I will ignore int’l condemnation of building homes in Jerusalem

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Friday said he would ignore the international community’s condemnation of prospective building plans for Jerusalem across the Green Line, in an interview aired in part on Channel 2.

2,610 Houses Approved for Jerusalem Neighborhoods

More than 2,000 additional new houses have been approved for Jerusalem neighborhoods. More int’l ire is expected.

More than 2,000 additional housing units have been approved for a southern Jerusalem neighborhood adjoining Talpiot, in a move sure to set off another firestorm of protest in the international community.

Jerusalem’s local committee on Wednesday approved building permits for 2,610 housing units in the Givat HaMatos neighborhood in Jerusalem. The approval was passed by a vote of six to one, with former deputy mayor of Jerusalem Pepe Alalu voting against the proposal.
