The U.N. Security Council expressed concern on Wednesday about ongoing military activity on the Golan Heights by the Syrian army and opposition fighters and condemned the decapitation of five apparent members of Syria’s military.

The council was briefed Wednesday on the U.N. peacekeeping force in the region, known as UNDOF, which was established after the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu visited a field hospital on the Golan Heights treating Syria’s wounded.
The Golan sees periodic fallout from the fighting in Syria in the form of mortar shells.

Israel Defense Forces troops brought a wounded Syrian couple to Poriah Hospital near Tiberias Thursday night. The couple, residents of the embattled town Daraa, arrived with gunshot wounds in their legs. The male is 27 years old and his wife is 23 and in the early stages of pregnancy.
The Al-Yarmouk “Palestinian refugee camp” in southern Damascus has been under an ongoing siege by the Syrian army. An opposition group said Saturday that two more starved to death in the camp this weekend, bringing the death total to 48.
The Syrian Revolution General Commission (SRGC), a coalition of rebel forces, said the camp of roughly 20,000 descendants of Arabs who left Israel during the 1948 war ran out of food and medical supplies after 180 days of siege by President Bashar Assad’s forces. Continue Reading »
