Sirens Automatically Activated When Syria Fired 2 Mortars Into Northern Israel

IDF officials confirm mortars were probably ‘spillover’ from fighting in Syrian Golan, where heavy battles have been ongoing in recent hours.
No injuries reported.

Two mortars fell in northern Israel early Tuesday afternoon, shortly after air raid sirens blared throughout the area of Kibbutz Ein Zivan in the northern Golan Heights, warning of fire from Syria. Local residents reported hearing blasts in the area shortly after.

The mortars landed in an open area near orchards and a UN base.  The IDF has confirmed that the two mortars were errant fire from battles raging in Syria, near the border with Israel, and not an intentional attack.

ISIS Beheading Syrian Palestinians in Damascus Suburb of Yarmouk

The savage Islamic State (ISIS) organization has seized nearly all of the Palestinian district of Yarmouk in Damascus, activists said Saturday, and there are reports of beheadings and mass killings of Palestinians.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) watchdog group said the Islamist militants have taken over 90% of Yarmouk, on the southern edge of the Syrian capital.

The Financial Times cited activists who said that the jihadi group may succeed in cementing a foothold in the Syrian capital, thus increasing pressure on President Bashar al-Assad.

Syrian gunfire lightly wounds IDF officer in Golan Heights

The IDF did not return fire following the slightly wounding of an officer, part of an Engineering force attempting to extricate a stuck bulldozer.

An IDF officer was lightly wounded by a gunshot fired from Syria on Tuesday evening. The officer was treated at the scene in the northern Golan Heights and did not need to be evacuated from the scene.

Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon refused to say anything Sunday evening about the reported IAF strike in the Syrian Golan that killed Jihad Mughniyeh, a senior Hezbollah man whose father, Imad Mughniyeh, was also assassinated by Israel.

However, Yaalon did respond to the reports from Hezbollah about the incident, and said that they contradicted Hezbollah’s own official claims, made in recent years, that they do not operate in the Golan.

The son of former Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh along with five other terrorists were killed in an alleged Israeli air strike in Syria on Sunday, Hezbollah-linked media reported.

Sources linked to the Islamist organization said that Jihad Mughniyeh, who oversaw the Syrian Golan Heights division of the group, was killed in the attack.

“Hezbollah’s leadership will decide how to respond to this new Israeli aggression, but this strike is unthinkable,” a statement from the group read, according to the Al-Akhbar news site.

Foreign media report: IAF helicopter fires two missiles at Syrian rebels attacking Israel

AFP cited an Israeli security sources as saying the strike had targeted purported terrorists who were planning an attack on the Jewish state.

IDF Soldier Wounded in the Golan By Stray Gunfire From Syria

Stray gunfire from Syria wounded an Israeli soldier in the Golan Heights on Monday, the army said.

“An IDF (Israel Defense Forces) soldier was injured by errant fire from internal fighting in Syria. He was evacuated to hospital,” an army statement said, without elaborating.

The soldier is reportedly from the Armored Corps., which is currently stationed along the Israeli-Syrian border.

IDF sources told Arutz Sheva Monday that the gunfire surfaces after a full day of quiet along the border, with no shots or explosions heard on the Syrian side. Continue Reading »

Al-Jazeera Reports: Syrian UNDOF peacekeepers flee to Israel

 

Al-Jazeera TV reported UNDOF soldiers in southern Syria abandoning their posts to flee to the Israeli side. Meanwhile a Phillipine official reported that Syrian rebels who seized the 43 Fijian UN peacekeepers, attacked Filipino troops on the Syrian Golan Heights.

Sounds of heavy fighting continued Friday afternoon on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights where Bashar Assad’s army continued in efforts to dislodge the al-Qaeda affiliated militants who recently captured areas surrounding the Quneitra border crossing with Israel.

At least one person is dead and several are injured in an explosion on the Israeli side of the Golan Heights Sunday, after an explosive device was detonated near a passing vehicle.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Office just confirmed that two people were injured and one killed in the blast, and that the attack was carried out against “civilian sub-contractors for the Ministry of Defense.” Continue Reading »
