Schwarzenegger Seeks Assistance from Simon Wiesenthal Center

Arnold Schwarzenegger, former California Governor, has gained the assistance of a prominent Jewish group upon hearing news of name added to ‘Hitler poster.’

Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has sought the assistance of the Jewish rights group the Simon Wiesenthal Center after the organization had alerted the acclaimed celebrity that his name is being displayed on a poster of historical figures and celebrities at a prominent mall in Istanbul, Turkey, that also prominently displays Adolf Hitler.

Italian students go to Poland to study the Holocaust

More than 700 students from 60 high schools & universities in southern Italy’s Puglia region made the trip.

ROME  – Hundreds of Italian students traveled to Poland on special trips organized to mark international Holocaust Memorial Day.

Some 130 high school students from all over Italy flew to Poland Sunday on the annual “Voyage of Memory” to Auschwitz and Krakow sponsored by the Italian Education Ministry in collaboration with the Union of Italian Jewish Communities.

For the first time since the European Parliament’s establishment, its president, Martin Schulz, has adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Day as part of its official ceremonies.

In a special letter sent to Rabbi Avi Tawil, president of the European Jewish Community Center (EJCC), Schulz acknowledged EJCC’s seven-year contribution to the Holocaust Day commemorations in European Union institutions, and promised that the European Parliament was committed to the perpetuation of the Holocaust and the promotion of democracy and human rights.

A German court has fined an ultra-conservative British bishop e1,800 for denying the Holocaust in a television interview.

Bishop Richard WilliamsonGerman news agency dpa reported that an administrative court in Regensburg convicted Richard Williamson of incitement and levied the fine on Wednesday. The case was retried after an earlier conviction of Williamson was overturned on procedural grounds.

The 72-year-old Williamson told a Swedish TV station in 2008, during an interview conducted near Regensburg, that he did not believe Jews were killed in gas chambers during World War II.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has criticized a ruling by a United States judge to fine Moscow $50,000 a day for its failure to return a historic but disputed Jewish library to the Chabad-Lubavitch Jewish group.

Italy Sets Guidelines to Prohibit anti-Semitic Chants at Football Matches

The guidelines were issued in the wake of two cases of anti-Semitic & racist behavior of fans in Hungary & Bulgaria that resulted in fines & sanctions by FIFA.

New guidelines issued by the Italian Interior Ministry govern how police may halt or interrupt a soccer match because of racist or anti-Semitic behavior by fans or on the pitch.

The guidelines were issued following a meeting this week of the Ministry’s watchdog commission on sporting events that dealt with the “despicable phenomenon of racism” noted recently at some matches.

France’s main Jewish student union asked a Paris court to order Twitter to divulge details about users who post anti-Semitic comments.

Tuesday’s hearing came on the heels of a weekend of Twitter posts using the hashtag #SiJetaisNazi, or #IfIWereANazi, which was one of the country’s top five trending topics on January 5.

Hungary & Bulgaria’s soccer teams fined for fans’ anti-Semitism

FIFA strongly condemns all forms of racism in football, and any form of discrimination will not be tolerated and will receive a strong response by the relevant FIFA authorities.

According to Article 67 par. 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the home association is liable for the improper conduct among spectators, regardless of the question of culpable conduct.
