Swiss investigating clandestine 1970 diplomatic-PLO deal

 

Switzerland to probe whether a pact between a former Swiss gov’t minister & the PLO interfered with an investigation into a terrorist attack that killed 47 people on a Swissair plane in 1970.

Switzerland is looking into whether a former government minister struck a secret deal offering diplomatic assistance to the Palestine Liberation Organization in 1970 in exchange for the Arab group stopping attacks on Swiss targets.

The allegation emerged this year in a book, Swiss Terror Years, which has also raised questions whether a pact between the PLO and Switzerland interfered with an investigation into a bomb attack on a Swissair plane in 1970 that killed 47 people. Continue Reading »

A pro-Israel professor won’t be on campus at Connecticut College when classes start Monday, missing the second straight semester since his 2014 Facebook post criticizing Hamas led to death threats and ostracism.

Andrew Pessin “requested and received a sabbatical for the Spring semester to continue his studies in Jewish philosophy and Israel studies,” Connecticut College spokeswoman Pamela Serfes said in an email last week. “He has been and continues to be a valued member of the Connecticut College faculty.” Continue Reading »

#BDSfail: Israeli products return to Slovenia supermarket shelves

 

The Mercator chain reversed its decision made 2 days ago by acknowledging it will continue to sell Israeli fruit, leaving the Slovenian Embassy to reiterate: ‘There is no Slovenian boycott of Israeli products.’

Two days after Slovenia’s biggest supermarket chain Mercator relented to pressure from the BDS Movement and removed Israeli products off its shelves, it went back on its decision, placing a new order for fruit from Israel, including pomelos and avocados.

The Jewish Agency revealed on Thursday that the number of Jews who made Aliyah to Israel from Western Europe has reached an all-time high.

Demand in China for Israeli partnership gains momentum at Beijing conference

 

90 Israeli companies participated at the economic conference in China to “reveal more information & data about Israel,” to further expand the economic cooperation between China and the Jewish State.

Last week, Israel sent a delegation to the two-day investors’ summit in Beijing, which was called “unprecedented’ by the Ministry of Economy and Industry. At the event, 150 corporate leaders from 90 Israeli companies met with investors from all over China.

Abbas: PLO to decide on severing cooperation with Israel next week

 

PLO to officially decide regarding continuing security coordination as Abbas calls for the removal of all Jewish communities in Judea & Samaria.

Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas announced Wednesday that the PLO would officially make a decision next week regarding the upholding of contractual relations with Israel, reported the Bethlehem-based Ma’an news agency.

Abbas made the announcement during a speech delivered in Bethlehem during Orthodox Christmas celebrations.

He reiterated past statements made by PA bodies supporting putting an end to agreements signed with Israel, notably the security coordination with Israel that was established through the Oslo Accords.

The Israeli Embassy in France has been successful in petitioning the removal of a painting of Palestinian terrorist Marwan Barghouti from a Paris auction house, the Israeli news site Ynet News reported Monday.

Marwan Barghouti was tried & convicted on charges of murder, and sentenced to 5 life sentences.

The controversial painting depicted jailed Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti as the Palestinian version of Nelson Mandela, and was due to be auctioned with funds raised going to support the Reporters Without Borders organization

Spanish judges canceled on Thursday an earlier decision to register Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and six other officials as war crimes suspects, and said it had been a jurisdictional error.

Spanish daily El Diario – cited by JTA – reported that the ruling, by two judges from Spain’s National Court, concerned Netanyahu and six other Israeli officials: former defense minister Ehud Barak, former foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman, current defense minister Moshe Ya’alon, former interior minister Eli Yishai, former minister Benny Begin and former Navy commander Eliezer Marom.

WASHINGTON – The US State Department on Tuesday rejected calls by 32 congressional lawmakers, including Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, to close the Washington office of the Palestinian Liberation Organization.
