Israeli NGO joining int’l efforts to combat Ebola outbreak

Israel’s humanitarian assistance group IsraAID, announced it is sending a team of trained medical personal to join int’l community’s fight against deadly virus in Western Africa.

 

Israel is increasing its assistance effort to help combat Ebola in Africa, Israel media reported Sunday.

IsraAID, the Israel Forum for International Humanitarian Aid, announced on its Facebook page Friday that it is sending a team to join the international community in fighting the spread of Ebola in Western Africa.

After major hacking attempt during Gaza war to crash  non-governmental websites, Netanyahu makes historic move to protect civilians – not only the gov’t – from intrusive cyber warfare.

In a landmark decision Sunday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced the establishment of a National Authority for Cyber Defense.

The new authority will be headed by Dr. Eviatar Mattaniah, head of the cyber-defense staff, and will be responsible for the protection of Israeli civilians against cyber attacks.

Netanyahu’s decision takes the already extensive work and thorough preparation to protect Israel’s cyberspace against terror several steps further, drafting leading experts in the field to coordinate and lead the entire Israeli cyber-defense team. Continue Reading »

Poll: Majority of Likud voters want PM to insure future Palestine state

 

According to the survey 2/3 of the Israeli public believes a violent confrontation will engulf the region if a final-status agreement is not reached in the coming few years.

A majority of voters who supported Likud Beytenu believe that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu should launch a diplomatic initiative that would eventually yield a Palestinian state alongside Israel, according to a new poll commissioned by the Geneva Initiative.

The survey, which was done for the Geneva Initiative by New Wave Research, found that 53 percent of Israelis who cast their votes for the ruling party and a majority of the general public (58 percent) believe that the government should make a renewed push toward a settlement with the Palestinians in the wake of the seven-week military campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Cave full of stalactites discovered near Jerusalem

A large cave of stalactites was discovered by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority (NPA) together with the Cave Research Unit (CRU) during construction work in the Jerusalem hills.

Austria standardizes a German-language Koran to contain spread of Islamic extremism

DPA – The Austrian government plans a bill to create a standardized German-language version of the Koran, in order to prevent extremists from misusing the holy Muslim text, Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz said Saturday.

The bill was needed because Austrians should know the Koran’s content, said Kurz. Additionally, he argued mainstream Muslims are suffering because terrorists and their sympathizers are acting upon incorrect interpretations, said the minister, who is also responsible for integration policy.

Israel’s baseball team wins int’l games to move up in world rankings

Israel’s European winning streak in 2014 advances team to 19th place worldwide in int’l baseball rankings, above South Africa and Great Britain.

Israel has moved up in the most recent International Baseball Federation (IBAF) men’s world rankings, Israeli daily Haaretz reported on Friday.

Israel is now ranked 19th in the world, surpassing several notable countries such as Nicaragua, South Africa and Great Britain.

In order to compile its list of rankings, the IBAF relies on several criteria including results from 2014 baseball events. According to Haaretz, Israel managed to improve its ranking this year due to winning the European Championship C-Pool tournament in Slovenia in July, winning second place in the PONY tournament in Prague, and winning second and third places in the Tuscany Series baseball tournaments in Italy.

Israel confirms Lebanese report: IDF UAV crashes in southern Lebanon

 

 

IDF spokeswoman confirms reports which 1st surfaced in Lebanese media, that an Israeli drone went down and says the IDF is investigating circumstances of crash.

An Israeli drone crashed in Lebanon on Saturday morning, an IDF spokeswoman confirmed. The plane crashed due to a technical malfunction during a regular surveillance mission along the northern border.

2 untrained Hamas operatives killed when disassembling unexploded Israeli ordnance

Two Palestinians were killed and three wounded on Friday when unexploded ordnance from the recent Gaza conflict blew up in the eastern Shujaiya neighborhood of Gaza City, Palestinian medical authorities said.

Witnesses said that a huge explosion was heard in the Shujaiya area and ambulances rushed to the area immediately.

Ashraf al-Qidra, spokesperson for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, identified the two fatalities as Ayman Ziad Abu Jibba, 23, and Abdullah Jibril Abu Aser, 23, and said that their bodies were taken to al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City.
