Twitter users in Spain posted 17,500 messages of anti-Semitic abuse after Israeli basketball team Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Real Madrid on Sunday night to win the Euroleague Championship, reports the Jerusalem Post.

basketballJewish groups in the Catalonia region filed a legal complaint over the messages, which flooded the Twitter network after Maccabi’s 98-86 overtime win.

Angry Spanish supporters of Real Madrid created an expletive anti-Semitic hashtag in their messages after the match, which briefly became one of the most popular keywords on Twitter in Spain. Continue Reading »

As anti-Semitism escalates in Ukraine, Jewish immigration to Israel rises

 

U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden gave a sharp warning during his visit to Ukraine as anti-Jewish incidents continue to plague the country.

 

In the past week alone, there have been reports of a synagogue being fire-bombed in the south-eastern city of Nikolayev, the desecration of the tomb of Dov Ber Schneerson, brother of the late Lubavicher Rebbe, in Dnepropetrovsk and the vandalizing of the Holocaust memorial in Sevastopol.

2 Dead in Shootings at Kansas Jewish Community Center and Old Age Home

The male suspect appeared to yell ‘heil Hitler’ as he was led away. Shootings were at Jewish Community Center in Overland Park and Village Shalom, an old age home.

Two shootings have been reported at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park, Kansas City, and at Village Shalom, a retirement home in Leawood. At least two people are reported dead. A third person was shot and critically injured. That person was taken to a nearby hospital.

Teacher at London School threatened to send Jewish student to ‘gas chambers’

Commenting on the incident at North London Collegiate School, a Community Security Trust official said, “This would be highly offensive in any circumstance, but to be directed at a (Jewish) pupil by a teacher is unheard of and makes it far worse.”

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), in its Annual Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents, reported Tuesday that there were 751 incidents in 41 states and Washington, DC — among the lowest numbers since 1979.

The audit includes assault, vandalism and harassment targeting Jews and Jewish property and institutions.

“In the last decade we have witnessed a significant and encouraging decline in the number and intensity of anti-Semitic acts in America,” said Abraham Foxman, ADL’s national director, in a statement. Continue Reading »

MK Rina Frenkel tells PM: ‘Bring Ukraine’s Jews to Israel’
