100 Delegates, including from Muslim world to hold UN nuclear conference in Israel

About 100 international representatives will convene in Israel next week for the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization conference.

 

Israel will be host to an important and highly-prestigious UN-sponsored international conference on the ban of nuclear tests next week, drawing representatives from Arab and Muslim countries which do not currently have diplomatic relations with Israel. Jordanian and Egyptian delegates will also attend the conference.

Around 100 representatives will take part in the meeting organized by the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), headquartered in Vienna, Austria. To ensure the safety of the participants, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued safety and travel assurances. Continue Reading »

Israel Embassy initiative in Senegal fights against poverty in Africa

An Israeli innovation installed on the farm, a low-pressure drip-irrigation system, using much less water & producing improved quality of fruits & vegetables has been inaugurated in one of Africa’s drought-prone regions.

An initiative of the Israeli Embassy in Senegal recently led to the inauguration of a drip-irrigated vegetable farm in the city of Fatick earlier this month.

Managed by a group of Senegalese women, the farm plot was established following a request made by the First Lady of Senegal, Marième Faye Sall, to the Israeli Embassy, as part of the TIPA program, which began in 2006 as an initiative of the Embassy of Israel in Dakar and MASHAV (Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation) to alleviate poverty through agricultural innovation. California’s Gov. Jerry Brown signed a strategic cooperation Agreement with Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu to receive aid from Israel, the world’s acknowledged expert on irrigation & water use.

California has been going through a catastrophic drought for three years now, which has cost the state’s economy at least $2.2 billion and left 500,000 acres of what was once rich, productive farmland fallow.

Israel & Japan Sign Research and Development Agreement

 

Milestone Research & Development agreement is expected to broaden economic ties between Israel & Japan

Japan and Israel signed a milestone Research and Development cooperation agreement on Sunday, the Jerusalem Post reported.

The agreement will reportedly supply funding for projects carried out jointly by companies and research centers in both countries.

“We continue our efforts to strengthen economic ties with the countries of East Asia, one manifestation of which is the agreement for parallel support of industrial R&D carried out jointly between Japan and Israel,” Israeli Economy Minister Naftali Bennett was quoted as saying by the Post in response to news of the deal. Albania is proof that Israel can have good relations with Muslim countries, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein said in a meeting with his Albanian counterpart Ilir Meta Wednesday.

“Albania is a Muslim country that shows things can be different,” Edelstein told Meta, who is visiting Israel for the first time. “Israel-Albania relations are continuing to grow closer and I that your visit hear will contribute to that.”

Edelstein also pointed out that Albania saved all of its approximately 800 Jewish residents during the Holocaust and had a larger Jewish population after World War II than it did before. Continue Reading »

Israel signs agriculture cooperation agreement with Nigeria

 

Israel’s Agriculture Minister Yair Shamir & his Nigerian counterpart signed an agreement to focus on bolstering Nigeria’s crop quality, strengthen professionalism & increase water efficiency.

 

 

Agriculture Minister Yair Shamir and his Nigerian counterpart Dr. Akinwumi Adesina signed on Friday a joint declaration toward increasing agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

The ministers signed the agreement, which will focus on bolstering food security, in the Nigerian capital city of Abuja that day. Israeli & Palestinian officials meet to coordinate civilian emergency responses

The meeting occurred due to a convergence of interests. Coordinating on aspects such as the clearing of roads in the event of floods, & joint firefighting efforts were addressed, and there was positive atmosphere from both sides.

 

 

Israeli and Palestinian officials held a meeting in Hebron this week, the first of its kind, to improve joint coordination in responding to civilian emergencies such as fires and accidents, and to figure out ways to protect the local environment together.

Israel & India: 2 Great Democracies that Should Widen their Strategic Ties

India-Israel ties have been deepening for many years now, but there are still many more  common endeavors the 2 countries could be working on together.

At first glance, Hindu-majority India, with approximately 1.2 billion people and an entire subcontinent, would seem to have little in common with Jewish-majority Israel, which has only about eight million people living on territory that’s just roughly 15 times the size of India’s capital city. While full diplomatic relations were established between Jerusalem and New Delhi only in 1992, the two countries actually have much in common.

A 10-member delegation of dairy farmers from the Punjab region of India recently visited Israel to participate in a training program about modern dairy farming techniques.

The unique program was especially designed for the group by the Center for International Agricultural Development Cooperation (CINDACO) of Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The Times of India reported that in late July, the Punjab farmers visited modern dairy farms located on kibbutzim and moshavim across Israel and learned the latest dairy farming techniques from Israeli farmers. Continue Reading »
