The European Union on Saturday called on Israel to halt the demolition of illegal Palestinian buildings, some of which are EU-funded, and reiterated its opposition to building Jewish homes in Judea and Samaria.

Charged for demolition & removal: EU financed modular structures with cement floors, constructed within the Kfar Adumim municipal boundaries, that were built without license or permits in 2015 for Palestinian Beduin on state land.
The Civil Administration early Monday morning demolished 17 illegal shacks and tents in three different Palestinian Beduin communities located within the municipal boundaries of the Ma’aleh Adumim settlement.

The NGO B’Tselem charged that the temporary structures in the herding communities housed 14 families who are now homeless and have no shelter from the harsh sun.

The Subcommittee for Judea and Samaria of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee hosted on Sunday the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), Major General Yoav Mordechai, for a discussion of illegal construction in Judea and Samaria.

According to information presented to the committee, about 550 illegal structures were built by Arabs in Areas C in the course of 2014, as opposed to 150 illegal structures built by Jews.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Monday night that he would set up a committee to develop a legal framework to prevnet illegal building in Judea and Samaria that would apply to all residents. The announcement by Ya’alon came in response to a lawsuit by the Regavim group that demanded the state intervene to prevent illegal Arab building, just as it acts to prevent illegal construction in Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria.
