Iran defends its rotation as head of UN’s disarmament committee

According to the established practice and rules of procedure of the UN, it’s Iran’s right to head the UN Conference on Disarmament.

Iran on Tuesday defended its election as the rotating chair of the world’s sole multilateral disarmament forum after the United States announced that its ambassador to the UN Conference on Disarmament would boycott any meeting led by Tehran.

The UN Conference on Disarmament has been deadlocked for about 15 years. While the chairmanship of the Geneva-based body is largely ceremonial, it is a high-profile position.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is a founding member of the United Nations,” said Alireza Miryousefi, spokesman for Iran’s UN mission.

Iran’s looming status as head of a UN disarmament body sparked outrage Monday from campaigners who said its nuclear program and arming of Syria and Islamist militias disqualified it from a place at the table. “This is like putting Jack the Ripper in charge of a women’s shelter,” said Hillel Neuer, head of Geneva-based UN Watch, announcing that the organization would organize protest events involving Iranian dissidents.

Israel has been working toward a cooperative agreement in compliance with Turkey and three Arab states to implement an allied system of detection technologies to defend against Iranian ballistic projectiles, British newspaper The Sunday Times reported.

The initiative, termed “4+1”, reportedly proposes joint efforts to be taken by Israel along with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan to share access to radar and anti-missile technologies, according to the Times.

Rajoub made his statements in a meeting with Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon. He expressed hope that with Iran’s help, Arabs would succeed in “freeing our land.”

Court: Kenya Finds 2 Iranians Guilty of Plotting Terror Attacks Against Israelis

The 2 Iranians were found guilty by a Kenyan court on Thursday for possessing a military strength chemical explosive allegedly for use in bomb attacks against Israeli targets.

Two Iranians were found guilty by a Kenyan court Thursday for possessing explosives allegedly for use in bomb attacks.

Ahmed Mohammed and Sayed Mansour, who were arrested last June, were found guilty of possessing 15 kilos (33 pounds) of the powerful explosive RDX. The court said they had suspected links to a terror network planning bombings in Mombasa and Nairobi, the AFP news agency reported.

Nepal nabs Iranian planning terror attack on Israeli embassy

An Iranian was detained by Israeli security staff & found with a counterfeit Israeli passport.

An Iranian national carrying a forged Israeli passport was arrested on April 13 by security personnel from the Israeli embassy in the Nepalese capital Katmandu, Channel 2 News reported on Monday.

According to the report, the man was spotted acting suspiciously outside the Israeli mission in the city. He was detained by Israeli security staff and found to be in possession of a counterfeit Israeli passport.
