Israel’s plans to build 2,610 homes in East Jerusalem are underway

The PA believe the area should be part of its future state, but Netanyahu insists that Israel has a right to build in its capital.

Plans are underway to build 2,610 new homes in a diplomatically sensitive area of east Jerusalem known as Givat Hamatos, which Palestinians believe should be part of their future state.

The municipality issued its final approval for the project in December 2012 but waited almost two years, until Friday, September 24 when it placed news of the approval in a local paper, according to the Israeli non-governmental group Peace Now. Continue Reading »

Police on Monday arrested five Arab children aged 12 to 13 from the mixed Jewish and Arab neighborhood of Abu Tor in eastern Jerusalem, after they threw molotov cocktails at Jewish homes in the neighborhood.

Jerusalem’s Mayor approves major construction plan for Arab neighborhood

Mayor Barkat overcomes years of opposition from right-wing, Haredi forces and gets approval for the construction of 2200 new homes.

 

The Jerusalem Local Building and Planning Committee on Wednesday approved a large construction plan for an Arab neighborhood in East Jerusalem over the objections of right-wing city councilors. The plan for the Arav al-Swahara neighborhood extends over 1,500 dunams (375 acres) and calls for building 2,200 homes.

Although Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and Deputy Mayor Koby Kahlon, who chairs the building and planning committee, had been trying to get this plan passed for several years, it was repeatedly blocked by right-wing activists in conjunction with Haredi city councilmen.

Israeli Group Says Build the Third Temple For Peace

Ceasefires, truces and bilateral agreements will never bring the peace most people in the Middle East desire. Only by following the biblical model, including the rebuilding of the Third Temple in Jerusalem, can genuine peace be achieved, argues an Israeli organization dedicated to that goal.

Terrorist Shoots Soldier in Jerusalem

According to a report on Channel 2, an Israeli was shot in the stomach at the entrance to the Har Hatzofim (Mount Scopus) tunnel  in Jerusalem.

An eyewitness named Eti said that the victim is a soldier. “I saw him falling backward,” she told reporter Moshe Nusbaum.

The wounded man is about 20, said the channel’s reporters, and he is in moderate to serious condition and received treatment on the spot. Continue Reading »

A guard saw a young Arab male behaving in what was said to be a suspicious manner and questioned the individual, according to the 0404 website.

The suspect then pulled a knife, possibly a utility blade on the guard.

The guard, who apparently evaded the sudden stabbing attempt, wrestled the suspect to the ground and was quickly joined by other guards, who subdued the suspect. Continue Reading »

Israel to inject funds, education & infrastructure for East Jerusalem annexation

The government’s plan to inject capital into E. Jerusalem to ‘strengthen’ the area, is really a maneuver to take this part of the city off the diplomatic agenda & anchor it as the indivisible Jewish capital.

 

The government plan to strengthen Israel’s control over East Jerusalem, approved Sunday by the cabinet, did not emerge from a vacuum. It’s the product of a right-wing perspective that’s shared by Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, who also holds the Jerusalem Affairs portfolio. The essence of this approach is breaking down the issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the status of Jerusalem into components including economics, education and infrastructure.

Arutz Sheva has received exclusive reportage on yet another violent Arab attack Tuesday on Jewish youth in the Old City of Jerusalem. Again, Jews celebrating the 47th year since the unification of the 3,000-year-old Jewish capital were targeted.
