Members of the US House of Representatives are going to begin investigating incitement to terrorism in the Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) schools using material provided by a Jerusalem based research center, its director told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.

Roskam (R-IL) and Juan Vargas (D-CA), along with Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Ben Cardin (D-MD) sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry and Trade Representative Michael Froman this week, calling on them to oppose a UN Human Rights Council’s (UNHRC) supporting the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

The US House Representatives adopted Bill targeting the Lebanon-based Shiite movement in a vote of 422 to 0, following a unanimous vote in the Senate on November 17.

The US House of Representatives voted unanimously Wednesday to impose tough new sanctions on banks that knowingly do business with the Lebanon-based Shiite movement Hezbollah.

The bill targeting the Iran-backed Hezbollah, which is considered a terrorist organization by Washington, passed the Senate last month. It now goes to the White House for President Barack Obama’s signature.

The legislation also targets Hezbollah’s television channel Al-Manar by aiming to cut the broadcast of satellite operators that air the channel’s programming. Continue Reading »

Newest Israeli ally, Japanese PM follows Netanyahu to Address Congress

Boehner invites Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, a new key ally of Israel, who recently launched Japan’s largest warship since WWII, to address Congress.

Israel and Japan have become key allies in just under a year, and hints of that mutual influence appear to be on display again as it was announced Thursday that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will address Congress on April 29, after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke there March 3.

Republican House Speaker John Boehner, who invited Netanyahu, announced that Abe was invited on Thursday, noting he “will become the first Japanese leader to address a joint meeting of the United States Congress, and we are proud to host this historic event,” reports The Japan Times.

Senators Warn Iran: Nuclear Deal Signed by Obama Ends in 2016

Iran’s leaders received a formal warning from 47 Republican senators saying: ‘Iran’s ayatollahs need to know, anything not approved by the U.S. Congress is a mere executive agreement.’

A group of 47 Republican senators has written an open letter to Iran’s leaders warning them that any nuclear deal they sign with President Barack Obama will not be valid after Obama leaves office in 2016, reports Josh Rogin on Bloomberg.

The White House gave an icy response to news that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was invited to address Congress next month, saying it was a departure from diplomatic protocol, according to AFP.

“We haven’t heard from the Israelis directly about the trip at all,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said. “The typical protocol would suggest that the leader of a country would contact the leader of another country when he is traveling there… So this particular event seems to be a departure from that protocol.”

U.S. lawmakers back Israel in Gaza conflict by introducing resolution

The resolution supports Israel’s right to defend itself against unprovoked rocket attacks from the terrorist group Hamas.

WASHINGTON – A resolution in support of Israel’s right to defend itself against rocket fire from Gaza was introduced into the U.S. House of Representatives.

The resolution, which has more than 50 bipartisan sponsors, was introduced Wednesday by Reps. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) and Tom Cole (R-Okla.) in response to the attacks on Israel following the murder last month of three Israeli teenagers.

It supports Israel’s right to defend itself against what the resolution calls unprovoked rocket attacks from the terrorist group Hamas and condemns the attacks.

WASHINGTON – The House Foreign Affairs Committee approved legislation designed to keep international financial institutions from conducting business with Hezbollah.

The Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act of 2014, introduced by U.S. Reps. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), includes a provision to sanction foreign financial institutions that knowingly facilitate the activities of the Lebanese militia and party.

Hezbollah already is subject to sanctions as a designated terrorist group.
