Israel, Japan open Far-East skies with direct commercial flights

 

The new agreement, also allowing Israeli cargo flights via Japan to 3rd countries, will allow 14 direct flights weekly between Israel and Japan.
• This year brought new flight routes to Beijing, Hong Kong, and now Tokyo. “The skies to the Far East continue to open,” Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz says.

Israel and Japan on Thursday signed an agreement to form new, direct commercial flight paths between the two countries.

Israel approves high-speed train, Tel Aviv to Tiberias in 1 hour

An express train which will enable travellers to travel between Tel Aviv and Tiberias in just one hour is being planned by Public Transport Minister Yisrael Katz.

Katz approved the continuation of the high speed train between Afula and Tiberias as part of a project to expand the train network in the north on Wednesday.

Israel Minister: Plans for off-shore Gaza port in the works

 

Intel Minister Katz says that the artificial island-port “would provide Gaza with an economic & humanitarian gateway to the world without endangering Israeli security.”

Transportation & Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz on Sunday night announced that he is working to advance plans to create an artificial island off the coast of Gaza that could improve the Palestinian enclave’s economic and humanitarian situation.

Katz told The Jerusalem Post Annual Conference in New York that the venture would seek to connect the territory to the movement of people and goods

Israel’s 2nd international airport to be built in Galilee

 

The new airport, to be located at Ramat David, was chosen because it had an infrastructure already in place to support a large new airport.

The government recently approved plans to construct a new international airport in northern Israel, ending a 15-year-long search for a complementary airport to Ben-Gurion International Airport, which is already nearing operational capacity.

The new airport will be located in Ramat David in the Galilee and will be the second largest airport in the country.

Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz (Likud) sharply criticized Israeli government policy on Saturday, insisting that it is responsible for the current salvo of rocket fire from Gaza.

“The policy of all governments since Hamas took power in Gaza is the wrong policy,” Katz began. “The security system has also become too conservative, and [neither] has come and taken revolutionary steps [to combat Hamas].”

Israel must not release arch-terrorist Marwan Barghouti for the sake of negotiations with the Palestinian Authority (PA), Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz warned Sunday. Barghouti is serving five life sentences in an Israeli prison for multiple murders.

According to reports in the PA media, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is planning to demand Barghouti’s freedom as one of his conditions for continuing talks with Israel.

The government issued two international tenders Wednesday for the construction and operation of two new private seaports to compete with the existing Ashdod and Haifa ports.  Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu declared the move, “the end of monopolies” at the nation’s ports.
