PLO Leaders to Meet Exiled Hamas Official in ‘Unity Talks’

 

Palestinians making another attempt at reconciling Gaza’s militant Islamist movement with its PLO rivals, hoping to form a united ‘consensus government’.

A senior Cairo-based Hamas official crossed Monday from Egypt into the Gaza Strip ahead of a new attempt to reconcile the militant Islamist movement and its Palestine Liberation Organization rivals.

Mussa Abu Marzuq, head of external affairs in the movement’s political office, was seen entering the Hamas-ruled coastal strip through the Rafah frontier crossing.

A delegation of the PLO is to go to Gaza from the West Bank on Tuesday for talks with Hamas, members said.

Arab MK: Israel trying to divide Arabs by drafting Christians into IDF

 

Pro-Palestinian Christian MK protests the new IDF policy, now sending an initial voluntary conscription notice to young Israeli-Christians, since IDF service is still not mandatory.

MK Basel Ghattas (Balad) told Army Radio on Tuesday that the recent defense establishment decision to start sending preliminary conscription notices to all Christian Arabs of enlistment age was an attempt to divide Israeli Arabs in Israel.

Elinor Joseph, was born 1991 into a Christian family from the Arab village of Jish, is the first Arab woman ever to serve in a combat role in the I.D.F.

His comments came after Army Radio reported Tuesday a change in IDF policy which includes sending preliminary conscription orders to all Christian Arabs at the age of 16-and-a-half.

Palestinian lead negotiator says Abbas has no intention of dismantling PA

 

Palestinian head negotiator Erekat, says that while Palestinians aren’t interested in dissolving the Palestinian Authority, Israel’s actions ‘have annulled all political, legal, economic, security & operational aspects of the PA.’

RAMALLAH – The Palestinians have no intention to dismantle the Palestinian Authority, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said Tuesday.

 

“No Palestinian is speaking of an initiative to dismantle the Palestinian Authority,” Erekat told AFP.

“But Israel’s actions have annulled all the legal, political, security, economic and operational aspects of the prerogatives of the Palestinian Authority,” said Erekat.

The Palestinian negotiating team reportedly warned US mediator Martin Indyk last week that they may decide to dismantle the Authority headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, in order to shift responsibility of governing the Palestinian territory and its 2.5 million residents to Israel, should peace talks fail. Asia beats US as Israel’s #1 export destination for 2014

Exports to Asia in 2013, nearly equaled those to the United States for the 1st time, coming within 0.6% points as a share of Israel’s total exports.

The Asian region will overtake the US as Israel’s second biggest export destination this year, the Economy Ministry said.

U.S. Supreme Court reviews president’s refusal to abide by Jerusalem birthplace law

 

The U.S. Supreme Court will review the State Department’s refusal to enforce a 2002 law that allows U.S. citizens born in Jerusalem to have Israel listed as their birthplace.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday agreed to weigh the constitutionality of a law that was designed to allow American citizens born in Jerusalem – the historic holy city claimed by Israelis and Palestinians – to have Israel listed as their birthplace on passports.

Jordan Condemns Israel Over Temple Mount Restrictions

Jordanian officials summoned Israel’s Ambassador to the country to protest ‘Israeli provocations’ on the Temple Mount.

Jordan’s government-controlled Petra news agency said Monday that government officials had called in the Israeli Ambassador to the country to protest the “Israeli provocations” on the Temple Mount Sunday. Israel closed the Mount to members of the Waqf after Arab youths rioted again Sunday, throwing rocks and stones at Israeli police.

Israel Strikes Gaza after being hit by 7 Gaza rockets

 

IDF retaliates to Gaza’s firing salvo of seven rockets into southern Israel.

No injuries reported on the Israeli side.

Six rockets fired from the Gaza Strip exploded in southern Israel on Monday morning. One of the missiles hit a street in the city of Sderot, causing damage but no injuries.

The Israel Air Force  responded by attacking two targets in the southern Gaza Strip and other targets in the center. Direct strikes on the targets were reported and all aircraft returned safely to base, according to the Israel Defense Forces spokesman.

Gaza’s Ministry of Interior announced that two Palestinian security officers were injured in an airstrike on the al-Nuseirat refugee camp.

Strong Winds Uproot Palm Trees in Eilat injuring 3

 

Unusually strong winds downed Palm trees crushing vehicles & smashing through walls leaving one woman & 2 children injured.

Vehicles and homes in Eilat sustained significant damage Sunday morning from heavy winds which battered the seaside resort. Three lightly injured patients checked into the Yoseftal Medical Center in the city for further treatment. One woman was hurt by a falling tree, while two children were struck by flying debris.

Traffic police closed off roadways blocked by fallen trees, while the local fire department worked diligently to clear the streets. Heavy traffic was noted on Route 90 near the city’s many resort hotels; visitors to Eilat vacationing in camping areas for the holiday weekend were forced to take down their tents. Interfaithfamily.com quickly seized the pregnancy as an “opportunity to share with ALL expecting parents” its various resources for new interfaith parents, including a booklet called “To Circumcise or Not: That is the Question.”

Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, The Jewish Press chose this headline: “Chelsea Clinton Pregnant With Non-Jewish Child.”
