The funeral for a Druze police officer killed in yesterday’s terrorist attack in Jerusalem has begun in his home town of Yanuh-Jat.

Sergeant Major Zidan Seif (30) was shot in a firefight with terrorists as he heroically intervened to stop the massacre at the Kehillat Yaakov synagogue in Har Nof; he died of his wounds late Tuesday night.

Hero MAGAV police officer Zidan Sayif (ז”ל) has succumbed to his wounds and passed away at Hadassah hospital, raising the number of casualties in the attack to five.

15,000 participants gathered in northern Israel to honor fallen Druze soldiers

 

The annual event was co-founded by Druze officer Brig. Gen. Amal Assad and is dedicated to honoring the memory of Druze killed fighting for Israel, in manor that conforms to community’s beliefs, which preclude physical memorials.

A weekend event in northern Israel dedicated to a show of solidarity with Israel’s Druze community and honoring Druze soldiers who have been killed fighting in the country’s wars drew over 15,000 participants.

According to Haaretz, the government will spend NIS209.4 million ($59.8 million) between 2014 and 2017, with some NIS80 million going to transportation infrastructure, NIS54 million going to education and NIS12 million being invested in tourism development.

Majdal Shams man wounded from Syria gunfire

A resident of the Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights was shot in a suspected terrorist attack as he stood near to the border with Syria Saturday.

The 19 year-old man, said he clearly heard a gun fire before being hit in the foot by a bullet, apparently fired from the Syrian side of the border.

The victim was admitted to hospital in light-to-moderate condition.

The IDF and local police have launched an investigation into the incident, saying that at this point they are unaware of any unusual incidents along the northern border. Continue Reading »

New scholarship for discharged Golan Druze soldiers

The scholarship will demonstrate to the young people of the Golan Heights that they are welcomed citizens of Israel & the scholarship is a very good way to bring together the Golan Druze community & Israel.

 

 

The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ) along with Sayeret Matkal (General Staff Reconnaissance Unit) led by former minister Avi Dichter, established a new scholarship program on Sunday for army and national service graduates of the Druze community in commemoration of Sayeret Matkal Major Salim Shufi.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on an incident in which Druze soldiers were not allowed to enter the Dimona reactor as part of a security drill and said that lessons must be drawn from it. “Our brothers the Druze are our flesh and blood. They serve in combat units in the IDF and should be treated as equals,” he said.
