Israeli police and security forces arrested a Palestinian man in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old woman from a West Bank settlement, whose lifeless body was found in the Jerusalem forest on Thursday night with multiple stab wounds.

A Palestinian teenager who tried to attack an Israeli border guard in the West Bank with a knife on Saturday was shot dead, an Israeli police spokeswoman said.

Border Police officers caught an Arab infiltrator attempting to cross into Jerusalem by hiding in the trunk of a car.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, when a 35-year-old Arab driver aroused Border Police officers’ suspicions when he tried to cross into Jerusalem via the a-Zaim security checkpoint.

The officers insisted on inspecting the car, and upon opening the trunk discovered an Arab Hevron resident in his 20s attempting to cross into pre-1967 Israel without the necessary permits. Continue Reading »

Anti-stabbing protective gear to be issued to Israel Border Police

 

Border Police (MAGAV) troops stationed in and around Jerusalem, Judea & Samaria will be issued new gear that will protect their necks from Palestinian knife-attacks.

As stabbing attacks have once again grown more frequent over recent days, Border Police troops will soon be issued new special protective gear for their necks, the purpose of which will be to protect them from stabbings, according to a Channel 2 report.

An Israeli border policeman shot dead one Palestinian and wounded another in the West Bank on Wednesday when they drove towards officers, an army spokeswoman said.

Israeli Border Police nabbed a Palestinian weapons trafficking gang red-handed Saturday night, seizing an automatic assault rifle in the process.

The three suspects were arrested at Tapuach Junction in Samaria, after security forces received a tip off.

At around 10 p.m. Border Police officers at the junction identified the suspects’ vehicle, and immediately detained them for questioning.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a special high-level security meeting on Wednesday where it was decided to increase security forces in Jerusalem and on Road 443 from the capital to Mod’in, and weigh new open-fire orders on those throwing rocks and fire-bombs.

The meeting, which included Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, Transportation and Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz, General Security Services (Shin Bet) head Yoram Cohen, and other security officials was called in light of a recent spike in terror incidents in the capital and on 443, which is one of the major roads to and from the capital. Sirens were heard on Tuesday morning, around 5:20 a.m. local time, in the Hof Ashkelon area of southern Israel.

The IDF said that the sirens were a result of a failed attempt to fire rockets from Gaza. Security forces were combing the area nonetheless to determine whether any rockets were fired, it said.

In the early hours between Tuesday and Wednesday, authorities were alerted to the large movement of potential infiltrators near Oranit, a settlement straddling the Green Line, northeast of Rosh Ha’ayin.

Border Police, with the help of volunteers, were able to track down the would-be trespassers before they reached the security fence, after which they were taken for interrogation, where it was discovered that a number of them are suspected of being security threats, or have a criminal record. The terrorist, an 18-year-old resident of the West Bank, was shot at the scene and is in critical condition.
