The Israeli military thwarted an attack on the Israeli-Syrian border on Sunday night, killing four terrorists in the process.

According to the IDF, a group of armed terrorists approached the border with an explosive device near the border town of Majdal Shams, which was intended to be detonated against IDF troops. In response, an IAF aircraft targeted the group and prevented the attack.

Israel Air Force drone operators test their responses to Northern infiltrations

IDF has been conducting new drills between the IAF and their northern territorial brigades.

 

The Israel Air Force has recently completed a series of drills aimed at improving the responses of drone operators to attempted hostile infiltrations of the country’s borders.

The drills factored in lessons learned from the deadly antitank missile attack launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon in January, which killed two IDF soldiers. They also included lessons learned from Operation Protective Edge in Gaza last year. Continue Reading »

Israel Buys 14 US Made F-35 Stealth Fighters At $110 Million Each

As in all IAF aircraft,  Israeli weapons and aviation systems will be integrated into the stealth aircraft, injecting millions into local economy.

Israel is to purchase 14 F-35 stealth fighters from US aerospace giant Lockheed Martin at a cost of around $110 million each, the defense ministry said Sunday.

“The defense ministry will purchase an additional 14 F-35s for around $3 billion, each plane costing an average of $110 million,” a ministry statement said.

The $2.82 billion deal, which includes other technological and training elements, was signed at the weekend after being approved by a ministerial committee in November.

Two Hezbollah activists were killed Sunday in what foreign sources have said was an Israeli airstrike on military targets in Syria, the Al Arabiya news channel reported Monday. The report contradicts earlier claims by Syrian security forces, who said Sunday that there had been no casualties in the attack.

60 Religious Enlist into Israel Air Force Hareidi Unit

By the end of the year, 400 hareidi men will have entered the IAF in its Shahar Kahol program.

Amid great tensions over hareidi enlistment, about 60 hareidi soldiers joined the ranks of the IAF Tuesday as part of the Shahar Kahol project, writes the IAF Website.

The new recruits will be integrated into a variety of professions and roles in the IAF, including programmers in the IAF’s Ofek computer unit, software inspectors, network administrators and information security professionals, certified electricians, mechanical engineering equipment operators and technicians.

After about three weeks’ basic training at the Uvda base, they will begin courses at the College of Management Academic Studies, after which they will receive professional certificates.

‘Israel May Have to Strike Iran at Any Time’

 

Israel’s Air Force commander said that looming military strike on Iran’s nuclear facility necessitates increased defense budget.

In battling the political echelon for defense budget increases on Sunday, the commander of the Israel Air Force, Maj.-Gen. Amir Eshel, reminded everyone that the same planes used to attack Gaza over the summer could be called upon at any moment to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Israel Downs UAV Near Syria Border

 

IDF spokesman says drone downed with Patriot missile by the IAF, appeared to have belonged to Syria’s military & had flown inadvertently into Israeli airspace.

The IAF fired a  Sunday afternoon, shooting down an unmanned aerial vehicle that strayed into Israeli airspace from neighboring Syria, the IDF said.

The IDF said the incident occurred near Quneitra in the Syrian Golan Heights, the scene of heavy fighting between Syrian government troops and rebels.

Lt.-Col. Peter Lerner, a spokesman for the IDF, said the drone appeared to have belonged to the Syrian military and had flown accidentally into Israeli airspace. Continue Reading »

Israel Air Force Executes Over 930 Terror Targets Successfully in Gaza

After a lengthy Security Cabinet meeting, Israel’s military leaders spoke about the road ahead for Operation Protective Edge, which has already hit 930 terror targets in the Hamas enclave of Gaza.

“Hundreds of targets have been destroyed including the homes of militants, government institutions, launchers, rockets and other war materiel,” said Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon after the meeting.

Thanking the IDF for its firm defense of Israel, Ya’alon remarked “the IDF has impressively succeeded in intercepting the rockets being launched at the State of Israel, and in thwarting the terrorist organizations’ malicious intentions to perpetrate attacks, both by sea and in other ways.” Continue Reading »

Sirens sound on Ashkelon coast, less than 24 hours after multiple rockets fired into Israel, additional rockets fired Friday morning, with no injuries reported.

Sirens were sounded in the Ashkelon region Friday. According to Channel 2, only one rocket has been fired and no one was reportedly hurt in the attack.

The sirens sounded less than 24 hours after skirmishes broke out between the IAF and Hamas. Four Kassam rockets were fired into southern Israel on Thursday night; there were no injuries reported. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) struck in Gaza on Thursday night, hours after terrorists fired several rockets towards Sderot and the surrounding communities.

According to Kol Yisrael radio, Palestinian Arab sources that targets in Gaza City and in northern Gaza were hit. These targets, they said, included two Hamas outposts.
