IDF Soldier Killed by Sniper Fire on Lebanon Border

Lebanese sniper opens fire, 7 shots at IDF vehicle near Rosh Hanikra, on Israel’s northern border, killing 1 Israeli soldier.

An IDF soldier was killed on Sunday evening after being hit by sniper fire near Israel’s northern border with Lebanon.

The attack took place near Rosh Hanikra, in northwestern Israel, and was perpetrated by a soldier from the Lebanese army. A military source who spoke with Arutz Sheva said that the Lebanese soldier fired at least seven bullets at an IDF vehicle.

The soldier’s family has been notified.

Israel has filed a complaint with the UN over the incident, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement. Continue Reading »

IDF of High Alert: Israeli soldiers comes under fire from Lebanon

 

Lebanese army says their soldiers opened fire on IDF soldiers who crossed border from Rosh Hanikra; Lebanese also say one of their soldiers is missing, may be in Israel.

 

 

A round of fire struck Israel from Lebanese territory on Sunday, in an incident still being investigated by the Israel Defense Forces.

Reports from within Lebanon indicate that Lebanese soldiers opened fire at an Israeli force that crossed the border in Rosh Hanikra.

The IDF was concerned at first that the incident was a Lebanese attempt to distract the Israeli force to enable armed militants to cross the border, but an investigation has concluded that there was no infiltration. Continue Reading »

2nd incident in 24 hrs: IDF fires, lightly injures Palestinian on Gaza border

 

After group of Gazans refuse calls by the IDF to vacate the area, and they continued to carry out suspicious activity by border security fence, IDF opened fire.

 

 

A group of Palestinians approached the Israel-Gaza security fence on Sunday morning and began carrying out suspicious activity on the ground near the barrier, an IDF source said.

The army dispatched a unit to the area, which borders northern Gaza, and soldiers asked the suspects to vacate the area. The suspects refused, and soldiers opened fire, lightly injuring one of the men, the source added.

IDF Chopper Gets Expectant Mother to Hospital on Time

IDF’s elite search and rescue unit, Unit 669, managed to land a helicopter in a snowbound Shomron community to fly a woman in labor to hospital in time to deliver.

A woman living in the snowbound hilltop community of Yitzhar in the Shomron (Samaria) phoned the town’s crisis center on Shabbat (Saturday) morning and informed them that she is in labor.

Confirmed: Gazan shot by IDF on border fence

After shots fired, the IDF reported: “A suspect approached the security fence…& was engaged in suspicious activity along the fence.”

An Arab man from Gaza was wounded by IDF gunfire on Saturday evening after approaching the border fence, sources on both sides said.

A Hamas health ministry official told AFP, without elaborating, that the man was hit east of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza by Israeli tank fire.

Eyewitnesses said Israeli tanks and one bulldozer were near the border at the time.

The army confirmed the incident, with a spokeswoman telling AFP “a suspect approached the security fence in the southern Gaza Strip and was engaged in suspicious activity along the fence.” Continue Reading »

With storm winding down 35,000 households still without power

As snow continues to pile up in Jerusalem and northern mountain tops, tens of thousands of Israeli households are still without power. The Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) said 35,000 households across the country are without power as a result of the tough weather conditions.

Israeli & Palestinian officials meet to coordinate civilian emergency responses

The meeting occurred due to a convergence of interests. Coordinating on aspects such as the clearing of roads in the event of floods, & joint firefighting efforts were addressed, and there was positive atmosphere from both sides.

 

 

Israeli and Palestinian officials held a meeting in Hebron this week, the first of its kind, to improve joint coordination in responding to civilian emergencies such as fires and accidents, and to figure out ways to protect the local environment together.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat has enlisted the IDF and the Israel Police to help out the many drivers who have been stranded on the city’s roads because of the snow.

On Thursday night, after the snowstorm which hit the capital caused many road closures and traffic jams, Barkat contacted IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz and the head of the Jerusalem District of the Israel Police, Yossi Pariente, and asked them to help clear the roads of stranded cars and people. Shot Fired on IDF patrol on Lebanese border

 

No injuries or damage were reported as shot dirested at IDF troops patrolling border near Metulah.

IDF estimates teen-hunters from Lebanon’s side of border misfired weapons.

An IDF force patrolling the Lebanese border came under fire on Thursday. No injuries or damage were reported. It is estimated fire was opened by teen-hunters on the other side of the border. The troops fired back two bullets to the source of the fire.

New IDF satellite system to be deployed nation-wide

 

Now army brigade commanders will have access to receive real-time live footage of ground events directly on their secured military mobile phones as new IDF satellite system will be operational in topographically-challenged areas throughout the country.

In the next few weeks, the three regional IDF commands – Northern, Southern and Central – are expected to be deployed with a new satellite system developed by the Computer Service Directorate.

RAF chopper makes emergency landing in West Bank – No casualties

JERUSALEM – A British military helicopter made an emergency landing on Sunday in the West Bank because of a “technical malfunction,” an IDF spokeswoman said.

There were no casualties in the incident on Sunday afternoon and IDF soldiers were “securing the scene,” she added.

Sky news website said the RAF helicopter had been en route from the Jordanian capital Amman to Cyprus when it was forced to land by engine failure. Continue Reading »

Investigation: Report received of Palestinian youth shot dead by IDF

IDF investigating report received of shooting near Jalazone refugee camp, north of Ramallah.

IDF source said the preliminary report of the incident “still sketchy”.

 

 

The IDF shot and killed Wajih Ramahi, 15, from the Jalazone refugee camp north of Ramallah on Saturday evening, according to B’Tselem.

Last Night’s Golan Explosion Was Bomb Targeting IDF Patrol

 

Friday night’s powerful explosion was confirmed Saturday as a bomb on Syria’s border targeting an IDF patrol. No injuries reported, just minor damage to patrol vehicle.

The IDF said Saturday that a blast the previous evening on the Golan Heights was from a bomb detonated as patrolling troops passed by, but that there were no casualties.

An investigation of the incident, which took place near the Syrian border, concluded that “the explosion was caused by a concealed explosive device operated against Israeli soldiers,” a statement said.

No casualties were reported from the explosion, but a military vehicle suffered some minor damage. Continue Reading »

Huge Explosion Heard in Northern Golan Heights

Explosion felt near IDF vehicle on patrol on the Golan Heights near the Syrian border caused no injuries but did do minor damage. IDF investigating but waiting for first light to examine area.

A powerful explosion was heard on Friday evening in the Golan Heights, near an IDF vehicle that was on routine patrol along the Syrian-Israeli border, near the slopes of Mount Hermon.

No one was injured as a result of the explosion, but damage was caused to the rear window of the military vehicle.

The explosion was so powerful that it was heard for kilometers away, and many forces were called to the scene to investigate. Continue Reading »
