In a sign that European countries may be increasing their support for Israel’s battle against UNESCO’s Jerusalem resolutions, Italy announced on Friday that it would vote against such texts in the future.

Israeli humanitarian delegation gives Italian quake victims emergency assistance

 

The devastating earthquake that ravaged central Italy on Wednesday sparked an outpouring of goodwill from around the world, Italy’s local Jewish communities and Israel’s IsraAID, with a 20 member staff of Search & Rescue, Relief and Trauma.

IsraAID, an Israeli relief organization, is hard at work giving vital assistance following the devastating earthquake that struck Italy on Wednesday.

An Israeli Navy submarine crew took part in an exercise last week, which simulated the rescue of a sunken submarine on the high seas. This type of exercise is rare among navies, and the first of its kind in Israel.

The drill, held off the coast of Atlit, was conducted with the special cooperation of the Italian navy – one of the few in the world that maintains the ability to extract a sunken submarine’s crew. Continue Reading »

Exclusive: Representatives of the Italian energy company Eni, that recently discovered gas fields off the Egyptian coast, are expected to meet with Israel’s PM this week on preliminary talks on a tri-national energy accord.

Italy has proposed a joint Italian-Israeli-Egypt cooperation on natural gas, i24news has learned. Representatives of the Italian energy company Eni are expected to arrive in Israel this week and will be meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz to discuss ideas for joining forces on gas exports to Europe.

The issue was first discussed by Netanyahu and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in their August 30 meeting in Florence, which took place hours after Cairo announced the historic discovery of a natural gas field off the coast of Egypt. Continue Reading »

US Air Force & IAF hold largest joint-military exercise in Israel’s history

Some 50 fighter jets belonging to Israel, Greece, the US and Italy took off Sunday morning from the Ovda air base, signaling the beginning of the largest military air exercise in Israel’s history.

Italian deputy pushes resolution to ban Hezbollah in EU

WASHINGTON – Fiamma Nirenstein, vice president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, has submitted a resolution to the committee urging Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi Sant’Agata to push to outlaw Hezbollah.

After Israel provides intel, Italy thwarts weapons smuggling

Rockets that were destined for Egypt have been found in freight containers in Port of Naples

Italian authorities have thwarted a weapons smuggling attempt involving rocket launchers in the Port of Naples, the Italian news agency ANSA reported Saturday. One Egyptian citizen was arrested.

According to the report, Israeli authorities provided Italian security forces with information on the containers that carried the weapons which were destined for Egypt.

Italian forces closed a section of the port in order to examine the containers.

“We absolutely reject threats to regional stability and denial of the Holocaust,” Monti said in reference to Iran. “Any threat to Israel is unacceptable.”
