In a released video, the Sinai’s most dangerous militant group, Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, said the 4 Egyptian men had been spying for Israel’s Mossad spy agency.

 

 

A Sinai-based militant group said on Thursday it had beheaded four Egyptians, accusing them of providing Israel with intelligence for an airstrike that killed three of its fighters.

An Egyptian-brokered ceasefire that Western and Israeli leaders hoped would bring an end to the current Gaza war had already collapsed by Tuesday afternoon, just hours after Israel’s cabinet voted in favor of the truce.

Around mid-morning, Israeli ministers voted 6-2 to accept the Egyptian proposal, and the Israeli army was ordered to halt all operations against terrorist forces in Gaza.

Egyptian infantry battalion deployed in Sinai to curtail terrorist attacks on Israel

Egyptian source reports infantry deployment was coordinated with Israel because of the growing threat from Sinai militants.

 

Egypt has deployed a new infantry battalion in the Taba area of Sinai, south of Eilat, in a bid to prevent possible attacks on the Israeli resort city or on air traffic headed there, Egyptian sources said.

The deployment was coordinated with Israel.

The Egyptian forces will be stationed particularly close to the Israeli border, compared with previous Egyptian deployments to which Israel has agreed.

Israel has consented to such deployments several times over the last few years even though it is expressly prohibited by  the military appendix of the 1979 peace treaty between Israel and Egypt. Continue Reading »

IDF Injured From Gunshot by Suspected Egyptian Smugglers

IDF Spokesperson report confirms one of its soldiers lightly injured during operation to disrupt Sinai smugglers.

An IDF soldier has been lightly injured by gunfire from suspected smugglers along Israel’s southern border with Egypt.

The IDF’s spokesperson’s office would only confirm that the soldier was injured whilst travelling in a jeep near the Sinai Desert, but refused to say in what circumstances.

However, several sources have claimed the soldier was hit by gunfire when the military disrupted an attempt by smugglers to infiltrate the border.

Another Terrorist Kills Himself in ‘Work Accident’

The founder of a terrorist group in the Sinai, responsible for killing of 8 Israelis in 2011, dies as his car-crash detonated bomb he was transporting.

A Sinai-based terrorist group has acknowledged that one of its founders, who took part in the 2011 coordinated attack on Eilat that killed eight Israelis, died last Tuesday. The terrorist was involved in a car crash, which detonated the explosives he was transporting.

The terrorist, identified as Tuwafik Mohammed Frij or “Abu Abdallah,” was a leader of the Salafist Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis terror organization that has claimed responsibility for firing Grad rockets at Eilat. Continue Reading »

Egypt still closing tunnels, keeping the pressure on Hamas

Egyptian security personnel warn Gaza’s ruling militant group that they will be held responsible for any terrorism near their border.

Egypt security officials issued a strict warning to Hamas on Friday, telling the militant group that it would not accept the use of smuggling tunnels between the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula, according to a report by Israel Radio.

Egypt also warned that Hamas would be held responsible for any incursions near the border.

Egyptian intel report: Israel operated 36 spying centers in Sinai

 

Of the 9 facing charges in Egyptian court, 6 suspects arrested are Israeli citizens, 2 of which are Israeli Arabs and the remaining 4 are suspected intelligence officers.

The Israelis are being tried in absentia.

 

 

 

A court trial investigating an Israeli network of nine alleged spies – three Egyptians and six Israelis – began on Wednesday in north Sinai, but was postponed until March for security reasons.

Terrorist rocket fired at Eilat intercepted by Iron Dome

Police searching the area for remnants after the 2nd Sinai attack on Israel’s southern vacation city this month.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.

Rocket alert sirens went off on Friday evening in Eilat. Residents reported hearing at least two strong blasts at around 9:40 P.M. The municipality called on residents to go into sheltered areas.

Last strike on Eilat occurred in August, when Iron Dome intercepted rockets.

 

Two rockets were fired at the southern Israeli city of Eilat on Monday evening, apparently from the Sinai Peninsula.

Police forces began combing the city shortly after the blasts were heard, at around 7 P.M., and located one of the projectiles in an open area near the entrance to the city.

The Egyptian government intensified its crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood on Wednesday, formally listing the group as a terrorist organization after accusing it of carrying out a suicide bomb attack on a police station that killed 16 people.

Egypt Military Reports They Prevented a Hamas Car-Bomb Attack

The Egyptian Army announced Wednesday that it had apprehended a Hamas terrorist in the northern Sinai Desert, Al-Arabiya reports.

The terrorist was named as Jumaa Khamis Mohammed Brayha, who claimed to stem from a family powerful in Hamas’s ranks.

During interrogation, according to the Egyptian army, the young man admitted that he was intending to blow up a Mercedes parked near a crucial security target.

Terrorist Behind Eilat Rocket Attack Killed by Egyptian Army

In a shootout, Egyptian soldiers shot to death Ibrahim Abu Atiyeh, leader of the terrorist group responsible for recent rocket attacks on Eilat in August.

Egyptian sources said Monday night that Egyptian Army soldiers had eliminated Ibrahim Abu Atiyeh, a terrorist belonging to the Al Qaeda-linked Ansar Beit al-Makdis terror group. Abu Atiyeh was a leader of the group, which has claimed responsibility for a recent rocket attack on Eilat in August. Abu Atiyeh  was killed in a shootout with Egyptian soldiers in northern Sinai.
