Palestinians trying to establish fifth mosque on Temple Mount

When then-Defense Minister Moshe Dayan yielded operational control over the dilapidated Temple Mount (following the 1967 Six Day War) to Jordan, there was but one mosque, Al-Aqsa. Now Jordan’s Islamic Trust seeks to defy Israeli law and open the 5th mosque, contrary to their own demands on maintaining the status quo.

The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court has ordered the state to immediately shut the Bab el-Rahmastructure that is facing the Golden Gate, or Gate of Mercy. A month ago, the Islamic Trust (Waqf) that oversees the Temple Mount decided to reopen the structure and turn it into yet another mosque, the fifth atop Judaism’s holiest site. Continue Reading »

Palestinians proclaim ‘victory’ after opening Temple Mount’s Golden Gate

The Old City’s The Gate of Mercy, (or Shaar HaRachamim in Hebrew), also called the Golden Gate, was sealed off by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1541, to prevent the Jewish Messiah, or the Anointed One, Elijah, from passing through, but last week a group of Arab worshipers removed an iron gate that was placed by the Israel Police in 2003 to prevent political activists from entering the Holy site.

Palestinian Christians on Wednesday expressed anger over the way the Palestinian Authority and Hamas have handled the ancient ruins of a Byzantine church that were uncovered in Gaza City last week.

They said that bulldozers removed the antiquities and continued with their work without supervision. They accused the two big Palestinian parties of seeking to obliterate Christian history and identity in the Holy Land.

Kids removing sand covering carving from ancient ruins, which archaeologists say may be part of a Byzantine church or cathedral dating from around 1,500 years ago, were found in Gaza City April 4, 2016.

On a high steel scaffold next to the southern area of the Temple Mount compound’s eastern wall, workers of the Muslim wakf have been working to repair the wall for quite some time.
