US processing giant Nvidia acquires Israel’s Mellanox for $6.9 Billion

“We share the same vision for accelerated computing as Nvidia,” said Israel’s Mellanox CEO, Eyal Waldman. “This combination will foster the creation of powerful technology and fantastic opportunities for our people.”

American technology giant Nvidia will acquire Israeli chipmaker Mellanox in a deal worth $6.9 billion, the companies announced on Monday.

The Yokne’am-based company, founded in 1999 and listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market, supplies end-to-end interconnect solutions and services for data center servers and storage systems.

Nvidia’s purchase of the company, acquiring all issued and outstanding common shares for $125 per share in cash, puts an end to months of reported takeover attempts by some of the world’s biggest hi-tech firms, including Intel, Microsoft and Xilinx. Continue Reading »

Israeli firm signs $10m contract to supply robots for Italian military police

Roboteam has supplied robotic systems to military, gov’t divisions from the U.S., Canada, the UK, Switzerland, South Korea, Japan & Thailand.
• The $10 million contract will provide 40 robots to Italy’s military police, the Arma dei Carabinieri.

Israeli robotics company Robo-Team Ltd., also known as Roboteam, announced on Wednesday that it has been awarded a $10 million contract to provide 40 robots to Italy’s military police, the Arma dei Carabinieri.

The firm manufactures ground robotic systems, also known as the Transportable Interoperable Ground Robot (TIGR), for military and law-enforcement utilization, such as handling of suspicious and dangerous items, in addition to collecting intelligence. Continue Reading »

Israel’s lunar spacecraft sends first ‘selfie’ from space

From 37,600 km (20k miles) from Earth, Beresheet’s first photograph shows the Southern Hemisphere, as Australia can clearly be seen in the background, and attached plaque in the foreground with “Am Yisrael Chai” written in Hebrew (meaning: long live the Nation of Israel).

The Israeli spacecraft Beresheet, which was launched off the coast of Cape Canaveral, Florida, two weeks ago on its way to a planned Moon landing next month, took its first selfie in space. The selfie – which was taken some 37,600 km. (20,000 miles) away from Earth – shows the Southern Hemisphere, and Australia can clearly be seen in the background. Continue Reading »

Thursday’s launch to the moon will put Israel with US, Russia & China

A nonprofit Israeli consortium said Monday that it hopes to make history this week by launching the first private aircraft to land on the moon.

Israeli scientists identify molecules that may treat fatty liver disease, obesity

A team of Hebrew University of Jerusalem scientists used an award-winning algorithm to identify 27 molecules with the significant potential for the treatment of obesity, fatty liver disease, among other ailments.

In a newly published study in Scientific Reports, a team from Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Institute for Drug Research reports its discovery of 27 new molecules that activate a protein called PPAR-delta, which has the potential to increase physical endurance and trim waistlines by getting muscle cells to burn more fat.

Using a combination of several cancer-targeting peptides for each cancer cell at the same time, combined with a strong peptide toxin that would kill cancer cells specifically, “We believe we will offer in a year’s time a complete cure for cancer,” says the chairman of AEBi.

The US technology company Intel Corporation has announced it is making a $10-billion investment in a new plant in Israel, that will create around 1,000 jobs over the next few years.

Intel Vice President Daniel Benatar and Intel Israel CEO Yaniv Garty informed Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon and Economic Minister Eli Cohen on Monday that the company’s management decided to make the huge investment in Israel instead of in Ireland or Singapore, which competed against Israel for the establishment of the new plant. Israeli company now extracts cold drinking water from air, for home use

The Israeli company Watergen produces an atmospheric water generating module that can supply clean, cool drinking water from the air to homes & businesses, sporting events, remote towns or villages, and could even accommodate the needs of victims following natural disasters.

Israeli company Watergen (also Water-gen), known for developing patented technology that turns air into drinking water, is launching an at-home appliance that it says will drastically change the water consumption industry.

Bloomberg index places Israel as 5th ‘Most Innovative Economy’ in the world

The 2019 Bloomberg Innovation Index advanced Israel from 10th place last year to 5th place this year as a result of better patent registration, outpacing the US, China, the UK and Japan.

Israel has been named as the fifth most innovative economy in the world, according to the 2019 Bloomberg Innovation Index.

Last year, Israel was ranked in 10th place but this year jumped to fifth place as a result of better patent registration, which has played a large part in its improvement in the rankings.

Israeli & Harvard researchers succeed in ‘activating’ immune system against cancer

A team of international researchers from Harvard and Bar-Ilan University in Israel have discovered the specific mechanism that allows one’s immune system to attack cancer cells in a particularly efficient manner, and most effectively against lung cancer and melanoma.

A new mechanism for activating the immune system against cancer cells allows immune cells to detect and destroy cancer cells better than before, according to a study recently published this week in the journal Nature.

Israel’s Knesset approves cannabis export

Medical cannabis stocks reaps windfall at Tel Aviv Stock Exchange as the reform, meant to allow the export of medical marijuana farmed & processed in Israel, was passed with the intention of infusing up to $1 billion annually into state coffers.

The Knesset, Israel’s parliament, on Tuesday approved a reform that would allow the export of medical cannabis farmed and processed in the country. In total, 21 MKs voted for the law, which passed unopposed. The implementation of the reform, in the works since 2016, is still pending a final vote by ministers.

Israel’s Drone Dome defense system used to re-open Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Airport in London was only able to re-open after military reinforcements were brought in, equipped with technology that was used to defeat ISIS in Syria, which the Daily Mail identified as the Israeli-made Drone Dome.

Another drone sighting forced London’s Gatwick airport runway to close again on Friday..

Police were still unsuccessfully looking for perpetrators in a disturbance that grounded flights in the second-busiest airport in the United Kingdom on Wednesday and Thursday, although British media favored the option of a lone-wolf environmentalist attack.
