Israeli spacecraft fits final component for 2019 moon launch – a Torah included

UPDATED: The final element on the Israeli spacecraft called “Beresheet” (“Genesis”) has been installed, a digital time capsule consisting of three discs containing the Torah, Israel’s national anthem, “Hatikvah”, an Israeli flag, Holocaust testimony and much more.
– Beresheet is set to blast off on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in early 2019, making Israel the 4th country to carry out a controlled “soft” moon landing, after the U.S., Russia, and China.

Israel Space Agency, NASA sign deal for moon-bound mission

The cooperation agreement allows Israel’s nonprofit SpaceIL’s lunar mission access to NASA tools and services, while NASA will have access to the scientific data returned from the magnetometer installed aboard the Israeli spacecraft.

The United States space agency, NASA, signed an agreement on October 3 with the Israel Space Agency to cooperatively utilize the Israeli nonprofit SpaceIL’s commercial lunar mission, expected to land on the moon in 2019.

As a part of the agreement, a retro-reflector from NASA will be installed on SpaceIL’s unmanned spacecraft. This instrument reflects laser beams, which will enable NASA to locate the spacecraft precisely on the lunar surface after the landing. Continue Reading »

Facebook leads in most patent applications in Israel

Of the 6,800+ patent applications submitted to the Israel Patent Office in 2017, Facebook leads with 94 requests.
• The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University and the Technion [Israel’s Institute of Technology], top the list of applications by Israeli institutions.

A total of 6,805 patent applications were submitted in Israel in 2017, the Israel Patent Office said on Tuesday.

Social media giant Facebook submitted the largest number of applications, 94, followed by cigarette maker Philip Morris (82), agricultural chemicals company Dow AgroSciences (69) and U.S. defense contractor Raytheon Company (60).

Israeli researchers develop ‘cluster bomb’ pill to eradicate leukemic proteins

Being developed for oral use, not an injection, the ground-breaking treatment for acute myeloid leukemia will accomplish the work of 3-4 separate drugs, reduce cancer patients’ need for radical procedures and eliminate some unbearable side effects.

Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have recently developed a breakthrough biological drug to treat people suffering from acute myeloid leukemia.

Israeli doctors implant first knee replacement that regrows bone & cartilage

Israel’s first knee implant, recently performed as part of clinical trials at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, was the product of Israeli startup Cartiheal and researchers at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

Rare, 2000+ year-old gold earring unearthed in the City of David, Jerusalem

The dazzling golden earring, definitely worn by someone from ancient Jerusalem‘s upper class, dates back to the 2nd or 3rd century BCE, during the Hellenistic period.

A Hellenistic-era golden earring, featuring ornamentation of a horned animal, was discovered in the Givati Parking Lot in the City of David National Park encircling walls of Jerusalem’s Old City.

The discovery was made during archaeological digs carried out by the Antiquities Authority and Tel Aviv University.

Israel’s SpaceIL spacecraft scheduled to land on moon by early 2019

Israel to become 4th country to launch spacecraft with moon landing.

The Israeli organization SpaceIL and the state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) announced at a press conference Tuesday that it hopes to become the first non-governmental Israeli entity to land a spacecraft on the moon.

Israeli firm begins advanced trials for non-opioide alternative in U.S.

Headquartered in Herzliya, the Israeli pharmaceutical received the go-ahead from the FDA to commence advanced trials in the U.S. on its long-lasting pain-killer, confidant it will replace the commonly used and highly addictive opiate-based medicines.

JERUSALEM – Israeli pharmaceuticals company PainReform has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to begin late-stage clinical studies for a pain relief drug that is a departure from opiate-based narcotics, it said on Tuesday.

Israel introduces Sky Spotter to locate Hamas ‘terror kites’ & incendiary balloons

Sky Spotter is an advanced Early Warning system with sensitive optical sensors to identify flying objects from 1km to tens of kilometers away, that alert firefighters to where the kites land for immediate response.

Close to 100 days since the first incendiary kite was launched from the Gaza Strip toward Israel causing fires to ravage the south, the IDF has deployed a system that can spot incendiary aerial devices launched from the Gaza Strip, track them and direct firefighters to where they land.

Phinergy drives their car by metal, air, and water, with the developers wanting the cost of their aluminum-air batteries to have a price equal to or less than gas, with their ultimate goal of being 100% petroleum free and with zero emission.

Phinergy is an Israeli start-up company, partnered with the aluminum giant Alcoa, specializing in hybrid lithium-ion and aluminum-air/zinc-air battery systems for electric vehicles.

The company was founded in 2008 by Aviv Tzidon of Tel Aviv, who also acts as the CEO of the company, based on technology originating at Bar Ilan University.

Israel’s ultra-tech Jordanian border fence completed, int’l airport protected

Israel’s Defense Ministry and the IDF’s fence-building administration have completed a 26 meter high fence that will protect the soon to open Assaf and Ilan Ramon Int’l Airport from Kornet missiles etc., should they be fired from Jordan.

Two years after work began on the smart fence capable of stopping Kornet missiles aimed towards Israel’s newest civilian airport, Eilat Ilan and Assaf Ramon International Airport, the 26-meter-high fence been completed.

The fence, which extends 4.5 km, is part of a larger 34-kilometer six-meter-high fence along the Jordanian border which runs from Eilat to Kibbutz Samar north of Timna. Continue Reading »
