The Hamas-affiliated student union in Gaza published a cartoon Tuesday in which a person whose body is made of a Palestinian Authority flag is seen throwing a Star of David – one of the best-known Jewish symbols – into a garbage can.

Text under the picture says, “Keep the world clean.”

The cartoon uses a Star of David rather than an explicitly Israeli symbol, indicating that it is meant to refer to Judaism or the Jewish nation as a whole and not the state of Israel alone. Continue Reading »

Palestinians withhold formal statehood bid giving talks with Israel last chance

The Palestinians have done all the legal work necessary to join 63 U.N. agencies, conventions and treaties, but have not yet applied for membership, mainly to give the latest U.S. peace effort a chance to succeed, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said Monday. And on Tuesday, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, who has been tasked with coordinating peace talks with the Palestinians, said the Palestinian Authority was planning to apply as a state to 16 international organizations if peace talks with Israel did not resume by June.

Jewish center taking in displaced Oklahomans

The Chabad center has begun passing out supplies and giving shelter to those left homeless after the deadly tornado devastated parts of the State.

The Shin Bet said that a Hamas cell, comprising nine residents of the Bani Naim village, planned to murder an Israeli in the Jewish agricultural area near the village and to hide the body and demand the release of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the corpse.

Syrian forces fired into Israeli territory on Monday night, the third such incident this week. At approximately 1:00 AM, Syrian forces fired at IDF troops patrolling near Tel Fares in the central Golan Heights. No one was wounded, but an army jeep was damaged.

An attack on a Jewish woman in the Negev on Monday was part of a greater pattern of Bedouin violence against Jews in the region, according to Rabbi Avichai Ronsky, a former IDF Chief Rabbi and former resident of the Negev.

According to reports that appeared in the Jerusalem Post over the weekend, the “leak” about the U.S. leak came from an Israel Radio correspondent, who listed details of the leak, and the apology.

Israel postpones UNESCO Jerusalem delegation’s visit at last moment

FM officials: PA broke agreement by manipulating what was planed as a purely professional UN visit and ‘politicized’ it.

 

 

Israel on Monday called off a planned visit by a delegation from UNESCO, the United Nation’s cultural organization, to inspect preservation work in Jerusalem’s Old City, saying that the Palestinians had “politicized” the delegation.

“The delegation as a delegation has been postponed,” a Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

“The Palestinians violated all the agreements we had with UNESCO: that this was to be a purely professional, not a political visit,” he said.  The official said the Palestinians asked to introduce a “slew” of political elements into the visit, with PA Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki characterizing it as a fact-finding commission to investigate Israeli steps in Jerusalem.

Israel’s Tazpit News Agency this morning reported that hundreds of residents of the Gush Etzion area were “astounded” to find a Nazi flag flying next to a mosque in the Palestinian town of Beit Ummar. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) were notified immediately, claims the report.
