Israel Aerospace Industries signs historic $2Billion missile deal with India

Israel has been cooperating with India in various technologies & military systems, including missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles during the last few years, bringing India and Israel into a uniquely strong and strategic partnership.

Israel Aerospace Industries has been awarded a $2 billion Indian military hardware deal, considered to be “the largest defense contract in Israel’s defense industries’ history.”

IAI announced on Thursday that it has signed a mega-contract worth more than $1.6 billion to provide advanced medium-range surface-to-air missiles (MRSAMs) to the Indian Army. The balance of some $400m. in contracts has been awarded to Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Continue Reading »

After rocky launch, Israel’s Ofek 11 spy satellite fully operational

 

The head of the Israel Aircraft Industries space division said following initial difficulties after the launch, that Israel’s latest homemade satellite, Ofek 11 is operational and taking fabulous photographs, ‘You should smile when you look up.’

Irony: Israeli drone sold to Russia used to defend Assad in Syria

 

What appears to be an Israeli-made drone was photographed in the Syrian skies, suggesting that a UAV sold to Russia is now being used by Assad’s army against the rebels.

An image released Sunday appears to show an Israeli-made drone flying over Syria. Israel Air Industries (IAI) sold the same model of drones to Russia, which may explain the aircraft’s presence in the country. Thus, in a stroke of irony, an Israeli drone is helping the Assad regime and its allies, Iran and Hezbollah, to maintain its rule and beat the rebels.

Syrian social media accounts claimed that the Israeli drone was sold by Russia to Assad’s army, but the photo and information were not published in official media outlets, so the accuracy of this claim is unclear. Continue Reading »

Canada’s National Defense Ministry Buys Iron Dome System

Canada’s defense ministry purchases first ‘Medium Range Radar’ version of Israel’s Iron Dome for Cad$187.2 million.

Canada said Wednesday it will buy missile defense radars modeled after Israel’s Iron Dome from German defense contractor Rheinmetall.

The defense ministry put the cost of the 10 medium range radar systems at Cad$243.3 million ($187.2 million), according to AFP.

Canada’s National Defense Minister Jason Kenney hailed the deal, saying the technology had proved useful for Israel.

“Much like Israel’s successful Iron Dome radar technology, the Medium Range Radar system will be able to instantly track enemy fire aimed at Canadian armed forces personnel and help keep them safe during operations,” Kenney said. Continue Reading »

Negotiators had “virtually sealed” the deal for medium-range surface-to-air missile system (MR-SAM) missiles which the Indian Army will purchase from Israeli developers, including Israel Aerospace Industries. The manufacturing will mostly take part in India.

Over the past 15 years, Israel has sold over $10 billion in defense systems and arms to India making Israel “among the top defense suppliers to India,” the Times of India said.
