WSJ reports Egypt ready to import Israel natural gas if conditions are met

Egyptian Oil Minister told Wall Street Journal that gas price must be right and the current legal complaint by Union Fenosa Gas against Egypt must be dropped.

Egypt is ready to take the controversial step of importing natural gas from Israel, if the price is right and if one of the gas companies involved in the deal drops legal action, Egyptian Oil Minister Sherif Ismail told The Wall Street Journal on Thursday.

Two Israeli smugglers were killed on Tuesday morning during an exchange of fire between Egyptian soldiers and a smuggling cell with operatives on both the Israeli and Egyptian sides of the border.

The Islamic State (ISIS) has announced that the Sinai Peninsula is now a caliphate, an Islamic state led by a supreme religious and political leader known as a caliph – i.e. “successor” – to Mohammed.

Reports around the Arab world are claiming that the establishment of a caliphate in the Sinai is the first step towards its “advance on Jerusalem.”

Egypt’s most active and notorious terror group, Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, has sworn allegiance to ISIS in Sinai.

Israel’s Agreement to Sell $700 Million in Natural Gas to Egypt Awaits Gov’t Approval

Israel’s Tamar gas field’s partners announced signed letter of intent to sell 5 billion m3 of gas valued at $700 million to Egypt over the next 3 years, awaits final approval by Israel & Egypt.

The partners in Israel’s offshore Tamar gas field announced Sunday that they have signed a memorandum of understanding for the sale of at least 5 billion cubic meters of gas to Egypt’s Dolphinus Holdings over the next three years, via an old pipeline built to send gas in the other direction.

Egypt Offered Palestinians: Create State in Sinai, Receive 5 Times the Size

 

Palestinian Authority chief rejected offer by Egyptian president to create a state 5 times the size of Gaza, by giving up demands of 1967 borders.

Egyptian president General Abdel Fatah el-Sisi has offered Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas to cede 1600 square kilometers of the Sinai Peninsula adjoining Gaza to the PA, thus creating a Palestinian state five times the present size of Gaza. In return, the PA would stop demanding that Israel return to the 1967 borders.

The offer was revealed on IDF Radio.

Egyptian Forces Foil Three Terror Attacks Against Israel

Egyptian security forces shot dead a terrorist who planned on blowing himself up near IDF soldiers, as well as destroying a truckload of Grad rockets intended for Israel.

Egyptian security officials on Wednesday night thwarted what could have been a major terror attack against Israeli, Egyptian reports said.

Egyptian soldiers shot and killed a terrorist who was running to the Kerem Shalom border crossing, apparently planning to blow himself up at the crossing, where IDF soldiers check goods going into Gaza.

Egyptian minister approves importing of Israeli gas – “no longer taboo”

Egyptian Petroleum Minister says there is no longer ’embarrassment’ in Egypt importing Israeli gas, given Egypt’s economic situation & interests.

 

The Egyptian petroleum minister said Wednesday he is fine with allowing British BG Group to import gas from Israel, Daily News Egypt reported.

“As the minister of petroleum, I remain of the opinion that there is no problem in letting BG Group import Israeli gas to protect Egypt from international fines and arbitration,” said Sherif Ismail. He noted the company has yet to ask for government approval to start importing gas, according to the Egyptian daily.

Heads will Roll: Egyptian TV station investigated for promoting tourism to Israel

 

 

A television segment on the Israeli Arab town of Jisr az-Zarqa sparked demands for an investigation from Egyptians who strongly oppose advocating normalization with neighboring Israel.

Taba Terror: Egypt Rejects Israeli Ambulances Entry into Sinai

After a terrorist attack in the Sinai, Egypt refused entry to Israeli MDA emergency medical response teams into Taba, where 3 Korean tourists & the Egyptian driver were killed, along with 33 wounded.

Egypt has refused to allow Israeli Magen David Adom ambulances and emergency teams to Taba, where four people are dead and 33 injured after a terror bombing Sunday. Three of the dead are tourists from Korea and one is a bus driver.

Egyptian intel report: Israel operated 36 spying centers in Sinai

 

Of the 9 facing charges in Egyptian court, 6 suspects arrested are Israeli citizens, 2 of which are Israeli Arabs and the remaining 4 are suspected intelligence officers.

The Israelis are being tried in absentia.

 

 

 

A court trial investigating an Israeli network of nine alleged spies – three Egyptians and six Israelis – began on Wednesday in north Sinai, but was postponed until March for security reasons.
