Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his predecessor Ehud Olmert battled over Israel’s Iran policy Sunday, with Olmert slamming Netanyahu for “waging war” against the US administration and Netanyahu responding that he would speak out loudly when Israel’s security is at stake.

“As opposed to others, when I see that interests vital to the security of Israel’s citizens are in danger, I will not be quiet,” Netanyahu said in Rome in a clear reference to comments Olmert made earlier in the day. Continue Reading »

Palestinian Chairman Abbas’ Newest Demand: Change Israeli Coalition Gov’t

Palestinian Authority advisor to Abbas insists that negotiations cannot continue unless Israel changes its current democratically elected coalition gov’t – and demands that it does.

Nimer Hamed, the political advisor to Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, has expressed optimism in the success of peace talks – but only in the event that the PA and Israel can agree on matters related to security, including the crucial Jordan Valley region.

According to Reshet Bet, Hamed also claims that the PA cannot move forward with negotiations unless Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu changes the current coalition government.

Hamed added that the PA expects “concrete steps” from Israel following meetings with US Secretary of State John Kerry – but the PA refuses to give any details about what those steps may entail. Continue Reading »

Jerusalem prohibits former gov’t official from participating in U.S. anti-terrorism case

Israel’s decision draws criticism from families of victims of Palestinian terrorism, that Jerusalem is caving under Chinese pressure.

The Israeli government is prohibiting a former security official from testifying in an anti-terrorism case in an American court, drawing accusations from victims of Palestinian violence that it is bowing to pressure from China.

In a petition to an American federal court, the government asked to quash the deposition subpoena issued to Uzi Shaya, who could have tipped the scales in a case filed by families of victims of suicide bombers who accuse the Bank of China of facilitating terrorist funding via branches in the United States.

French President Francois Hollande is not welcome in the Knesset, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein declared Wednesday.

Hollande decided to speak to university students, not the Knesset, during his visit to Israel in three weeks, and Edelstein responded to the snub in kind.

“Whoever disrespects the Knesset does not deserve the Knesset’s respect,” Edelstein wrote on Facebook.

Habayit Hayehudi announced Thursday that on Sunday the party intends to raise to vote a bill prohibiting the release of terrorists, shortly before the scheduled second release of terrorists, as agreed under the renewed talks.

“Releasing terrorists in return to Tzipi Livni‘s right to meet with (Saeb) Erekat is very severe,” a Habayit Hayehudi official said about the peace talks, which are at an impasse.

Comptroller: Feiglin, Danon & Bennett raised too much campaign money in US

 

Contrary to PM’s directive, Deputy Defense Minister Danon was absent from this year’s budget votes to be at a fundraiser.

 

 

 

State Comptroller Joseph Shapira singled out three politicians with close ties to the US Wednesday for raising too much funds on their primary campaigns: Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon and Likud Beytenu MK Moshe Feiglin.

Shapira expressed disapproval of politicians who raise money for their primary campaigns abroad, saying that, in his opinion, it should be illegal.

Donations from abroad consisted of a quarter of the total contributions candidates received in the six parties that held primaries: Likud, Bayit Yehudi, HaTikva, Kadima, Meretz and Labor.

Anti-Israel MK Zoabi considers running for Mayor of Nazareth

Knesset Member and ardent anti-Zionist Hanin Zoabi reported on Tuesday that she’s ‘seriously considering’ running for mayor of Nazareth.

Fellow Balad party members are divided on this issue.

Knesset Member Hanin Zoabi (Balad) announced Tuesday morning that she was “seriously considering” running to in the Nazareth mayoral race.

Zoabi told Ynet that though her decision was not final, she expressed interest in running for mayor and will announce her final decision soon.

Temple activists say police closing Mount to Jews was unnecessary, asking for site’s opening ahead of Jewish High Holidays. ‘It’s our basic right & it must be respected,’ their representative tells Knesset committee.

Dozens of Jews on visited the Temple Mount on Sunday morning as it was opened to tourists for the first time since the end of the month of Ramadan and the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr last week.
