Israeli kickboxer Nili Block, wins Kickboxing World Championships

 

The 20yr-old Israeli has impressed everyone watching her throughout the championship, even beating a former 6-time world champ in the semi-finals.

Israeli kickboxer Nili Block won the Kickboxing World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia on Saturday, after defeating her Croatian opponent in the finals of the women’s under 60kg category.

Block’s coach, Beny Cogan, told Ynet, “It was a tough fight to the end; Nili lead on points and kept the advantage even though the Croatian pressured her.”

Israeli Wins Silver at World Athletics Championships

Fourteen years after Israel’s last medal at the World Athletics Championships, Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko has won the silver medal in the triple-jump. She also broke the national record, achieving a jump of 14.78 meters.

Colombia’s Caterine Ibarguen comfortably retained her world title at the games in Beijing, stretching her winning streak to 29 competitions and achieving a best of 14.90 meters for the gold medal. Olympic champion Olga Rypakova of Kazakhstan took the bronze.

Fans of the controversial Beitar Jerusalem team shocked the Israeli sports community after a small confrontation with fans of a rival team sparked a violent display at a game in Belgium Thursday night.

Tel Aviv marathon cancelled after 75 runners injured & unseasonable heat

Tel Aviv marathon cancelled midway after 75 runners were given first-aid treatment by MDA for injuries, with 15 taken to the hospital, & leaving 2 in serious condition.

The organizers of the Tel Aviv Marathon were forced to cancel the event in the middle on Friday morning, after numerous runners suffered injuries due to the unseasonable heat. While most of the runners had completed their tracks, there were about 500 runners on the full marathon track who had not yet finished.

Israel Team Awarded Silver Medal at World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships

Israeli rhythmic team makes biggest achievement to date, stunning judges & pulling off amazing performance without error.

Israel’s national rhythmic gymnastic team won the silver medal Sunday in the 2014 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships that took place in Izmir, Turkey. This the team’s biggest achievement to date.

The team won the medal for the club routine as part of group competition stage with the final score of 16.983.

The team, which include Alona Kushewtzki, Ida Meirin, Yuval Pilo, Katia Levín, Karina Lichber and Lihi Shuchtowitz, ascended to the finals following a great performance in the preliminaries which gave them the fifth spot in the all round competition and the ticket to the top eight. Israel’s baseball team wins int’l games to move up in world rankings

Israel’s European winning streak in 2014 advances team to 19th place worldwide in int’l baseball rankings, above South Africa and Great Britain.

Israel has moved up in the most recent International Baseball Federation (IBAF) men’s world rankings, Israeli daily Haaretz reported on Friday.

Israel is now ranked 19th in the world, surpassing several notable countries such as Nicaragua, South Africa and Great Britain.

In order to compile its list of rankings, the IBAF relies on several criteria including results from 2014 baseball events. According to Haaretz, Israel managed to improve its ranking this year due to winning the European Championship C-Pool tournament in Slovenia in July, winning second place in the PONY tournament in Prague, and winning second and third places in the Tuscany Series baseball tournaments in Italy.

Twitter users in Spain posted 17,500 messages of anti-Semitic abuse after Israeli basketball team Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Real Madrid on Sunday night to win the Euroleague Championship, reports the Jerusalem Post.

The Harlem Globetrotters have not lost in eight years and have only been defeated 345 times in more than 22,000 games, so to say that they won their game against the World All-Stars Friday at Romema Arena in Haifa would not be news.

JERUSALEM (AP) — The president of Israel has invited New York Knicks star Amare Stoudemire to play for the country’s national basketball team because of his ties to Judaism.

Shimon Peres met with Stoudemire on Thursday to discuss the player’s charity efforts. Stoudemire, who says he has ”Hebrew roots,” has traveled to Israel before and Peres urged him to help the national team.

The six-time NBA All-Star already has significant ties to Israeli basketball.

Egyptian wrestler Enas Moustafa Khourshid also refused to shake Israeli wrestler Ilana Kartysh’s hand, disrespecting wrestling protocol.
