Palestinians plan an airport, Gaza seaport and railway to Cairo after independence

 

Palestinian Authority transportation minister announces plans for second airport in West Bank, modern Mediterranean seaport in Gaza, and a railway line linking Gaza and Cairo.

Palestinian Transportation Minister Nabil Dmaidi announced on Sunday that the Palestinian Authority intends to build an airport, sea ports and a railway to connect the Gaza Strip to Egypt.

Dmaidi said his ministry signed a cooperative agreement with Egypt’s civil aviation authority, in an attempt to utilize the professional experience of the Egyptians in the aerospace industry.

Hamas Holds Ancient Apollo Statue Found by Gaza Fisherman

 

Bronze Apollo statue found by fisherman, dating back 1,800-2,500 years ago, is being held by Hamas is an disclosed location.

In an Interior Ministry office somewhere in Gaza stands an ancient bronze statue of the Greek god Apollo, discovered last August by a local fisherman and valued at $20 million to $40 million or more, Bloomberg Businessweek reports.

The discovery is credited to Gazan fisherman Jouda Ghurab, 26. However, Ghurab’s claim to have come upon it in the waters off the Gazan shore is disputed by foreign archeologists who’ve seen photos and videos of the statue; they say there would have been sea encrustations and water damage if it had lain in the sea for centuries.

Hamas court: 1 man to death, 1 for life, for collaborating with Israel

 

The Palestinian news agency Ma’an reported a military court in Gaza sentenced one man to death, another man to life in prison on the same charge of collaboration with Zionists.

A Gaza military court sentenced a man suspected of collaborating with Israel to death on Thursday, and sentenced another suspect to life in prison on the same charge.

The court did not set a date for the execution, and the names of the defendants were not publicized, according to a report in Palestinian news agency Ma’an.

Gaza Brigade reservists to be deployed in sector 1st time in years

 

Gaza Brigade reservists are set to relieve regular Givati Brigade soldiers departing the sector for a routine, 3-week training rotation.

Move prompted by changes to military’s training, deployment plans following defense budget cuts.

The Israel Defense Forces has announced plans to reintroduce the operational deployment of reserve units in the Gaza sector within the next few months. Reserve soldiers in the Gaza Brigade will be deployed in the sector to relieve regular soldiers from the Infantry Corps’ Givati Brigade.

The decision, made public on Monday, follows the IDF’s revision of its overall training plans as a result of cuts in the 2014 defense budget.

Captain Tal Nahman, 21 – IDF Soldier Killed by Friendly-Fire

The identity of the soldier killed Monday due to friendly fire near Gaza has been released: Captain Tal Nahman, 21, from Nes Ziona.

Nahman was promoted to Captain posthumously. The funeral will take place at 3:00 pm Tuesday with a military ceremony at the cemetery in Nes Ziona.

After a rocket was fired at Eilat by Al Qaeda-inspired Ansar Beit al-Maqdis (Partisans of Jerusalem) Friday night, and shot down by Iron Dome, Intelligence Minister Yuval Steinitz warned Saturday that at the current rate, Israel will soon have to once again enter Gaza to destroy Hamas, the Islamist terrorist group which currently controls the territory.

Israel Air Force returns night-time response to Hamas for earlier rocket fired from Gaza

IAF aircraft hit several of Hamas’ terror-related sites in Gaza, in retaliation for a rocket attack targeting the city of Netivot a few hours earlier.

Israeli Air Force (IAF) aircraft targeted several terror-related sites in Gaza on Thursday night, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement.

According to the statement, the airstrikes targeted a weapons facility and a terrorist center in northern Gaza, as well as a weapons storage site in southern Gaza.

The “Mujahideen Brigades” in Gaza announced this week the launch of a new domestically-developed ATM (Anti-Tank Missile) launcher. Video released by the terror group shows a terrorist holding the new weapon and firing a missile.

Abbas In Russia for $1Billion Energy Deal for Gaza

Report speaks of Abbas & Russian PM to sign agreement on a $1Billion Mediterranean natural gas project off the Gaza coast.

Moscow  – Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas sought on Thursday to secure a billion-dollar Gaza energy deal during talks with Russian leaders aimed at restoring warmer ties between the two Soviet-era allies.

Abbas and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev were due to sign an intergovernmental agreement that reports said included a $1.0-billion (730-million-euro) natural gas project in the Gaza section of the Mediterranean Sea.
