Israel & Jordan launch joint Jordan River industrial zone project

 

Tender issued to construct bridge across Jordan River that would connect new industrial zones on both sides of the river in binational project.

Israel has issued a tender for the construction of a new bridge across the Jordan River which would connect it with its neighbor from the east, the Ministry for Regional Cooperation said Sunday.

The bridge will be part of the “Jordan-gate” project, which will see the establishment of a joint industrial zone between the two countries.

The tender was issued through the Valley of Springs Regional Council in northern Israel, on whose land the industrial area will be built. Continue Reading »

Bedouin Leaders Call on Jordan’s King to Declare War on Israel

 

Bedouin leaders published a letter sent to Jordan’s King Abdullah, urging the Kingdom to create special military brigades that will attack and liberate Jerusalem from the Zionists.

More than 50 Bedouin leaders have published a joint statement in which they call on Jordanian King Abdullah to create a military unit tasked with “liberating” Jerusalem.

“Arab regimes in general, and the Jordanian regime in particular have shirked their religious, national, and ethical responsibility towards the most important Arab and Muslim problem, the Palestinian problem,” the statement read, according to the Arabi 21 news site.

“The events in the occupied land and at the al-Aqsa Mosque would not have happened if ti wasn’t for the incompetence of governments and their actions in the service of the Zionists, Americans, and national enemies.” Continue Reading »

Following Jordanian King Abdullah II’s criticism of Israel over recent violence on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, Israel reportedly responded to the monarchy and indicated that Jordan itself was allowing the status quo at the site to be broken.

Einat Schlein, an expert in Mid-Eastern affairs & 1 of 7 women appointed to diplomatic posts, is Israel’s newest envoy to Jordan, making her Israel’s 1st female ambassador to an Arab country.

Einat Schlein became Israel’s first woman to serve as ambassador to an Arab country when she presented her credentials to Jordan’s King Abdullah in a ceremony in Amman on Monday, Israel’s Foreign Ministry said.

Israel’s new envoy to Jordan is an expert in Middle East affairs and previously headed the international division of the Foreign Ministry’s diplomatic research center.

Schlien, who headed the international division of the Foreign Ministry’s diplomatic research center, will replace Daniel Nevo in Jordan as Israel’s ambassador. Continue Reading »

Israel Begins to Build Anti-Infiltrator Fence on its Jordan Border

 

The fence, aimed at stopping infiltrators from the east, will begin at Israel’s southern border with Jordan near Eilat going northwards for 30 kilometers.

The building of a border fence intended to bar those attempting to infiltrate into Israel from the east will commence on Sunday between Israel and Jordan.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon will officially announce the beginning of the project later today.

US source: Israel armed Jordan with Cobra combat helicopters for securing its Syria, Iraq border

Although Jordan, Israel and the Pentagon declined to comment, unnamed American official leaks to the press that Jerusalem gave US-supplied attack choppers to Jordan to fight off insurgent threats.

Israel has given retired US-supplied Cobra combat helicopters to Jordan to help the Hashemite kingdom fend off insurgent threats on the Syrian and Iraqi borders, a US official with knowledge of the deal said.

Jordan and Israel closely coordinate security for their 240 km (150 mile)-long border as well as for the strategic 95 km (60 mile)-long Jordan Valley within the West Bank.


But the Netanyahu government worries that African immigrants and armed jihadi infiltrators might try to reach Israel via Jordan after the Egyptian Sinai border was fenced off with a 5 meter (16 foot)-high razor-wire barrier in 2013.

Israel Increases Water Supply to West Bank, Jordan & Gaza

Israel’s national water authority says ability now exists to double the amount supplied to Gaza, with water supplies to Palestinian West Bank and Jordan to substantially increase as well.

Israel’s national water company Mekorot, in accordance with the Water Authority’s guidelines, recently doubled its water supply to the Gaza Strip by 5 million cubic meters. The annual supply will now amount to 10 million cubic meters of water.

A Jordanian columnist is extremely concerned that Arab countries have turned their backs on the kingdom, pushing it straight into Israel’s lap.

In the April 12 edition of the Jordanian daily Al-Dustour, columnist Maher Abu Tair sheds light on what he calls the “sad” contemporary situation in which the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan finds itself.

He accuses Arab countries of turning their backs on Jordan and abandoning it, pushing Jordan totally into Israel’s economic and political lap.

Israel approves natural gas deal with Jordan

Cementing Israel’s first natural gas export deal with Jordan, National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Minister Silvan Shalom and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized an agreement to convey Tamar reservoir gas to two Jordanian companies on Thursday.

The ministerial approval follows the February 2014 announcement of the transaction between the Tamar reservoir partnership and the Jordanian firms. The Islamic Action Front (IAF), Jordan’s main opposition party, on Sunday slammed a deal signed between the country and Israel to build a pipeline to link the Red Sea with the shrinking Dead Sea and combat regional water shortages.
