Former diplomats and intellectuals came out against Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman Monday, a day after he called to decapitate Israeli Arabs who are “against us.”

Israel Economy Minister Boosts Arab Hi-Tech Employment In $2.5 million Training Program

Economy Ministry has enacted strategic goal to expand hi-tech employment among Israel’s Arabs, especially the women.

Israeli Economy Minister Naftali Bennett this week awarded tenders totaling $2.5 million to two organizations tasked with training and integrating more local Arabs into the hi-tech industry.

The two companies, Tsofen and ITworks, will examine hi-tech manpower needs around the country, and accordingly train and provide job placement services for Arab hi-tech students.

“There is a skilled and high-quality workforce in Israel in the form of hundreds of male and female academics from the Arab, Druze and Circassian sectors, available for employment,” said Michal Tzuk, deputy director-general at the Ministry of Economy.

Tensions continued to mount Saturday evening in the village of Abu Snan a mere day after 41 Israelis were hurt in heavy clashes between Druze and Muslims Arabs. Police forces have deployed to the area fearing another flare-up in riots sparked by a dispute between local students.

Poll: 24% of Israeli Jews boycott Arab businesses

Globes reported that latest survey finds 51% of respondents would boycott businesses that employ people who criticize the IDF.

 

Nearly a quarter of Israeli Jewish consumers are boycotting Arab businesses, a poll released on Tuesday found.

Some 24 percent of respondents said they refuse to patron Arab shops, down from 47 percent during a similar Geocartography poll conducted during the Gaza war, Globes reported.

However, the figures should be taken with a grain of salt: According to the poll, only 29 percent of respondents said they did in fact boycott Arab businesses during the war, meaning that 18 percent out of the 47 percent polled during the hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian factions in Gaza did not abide by their professed convictions.

Takwin Labs, an incubator for Arab Israeli high-tech entrepreneurs focused on Internet and Mobile technologies, announced Sunday that it closed $4.5 million in funding.

The Haifa-based Takwin, which means “beginning” in Arabic, was spun off from several leaders already active in the Arab Israeli High-tech space: Imad Telhami, whose company Babcom is one of the largest employers of Arab engineers in Israel,  Labor MK Erel Margalit, who founded Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP), and Chemi Peres, Chairman Al Bawader, a VC that invests in Arab start-ups (and son of former President Shimon Peres). REPORT: Israeli Arab Population exchange to future Palestine legal under int’l law

According to Foreign Minister Lieberman’s legal study, moving Israel’s border would require agreement of the Palestinians, can not leave individuals without citizenship & would require a mechanism for compensation.

 

 

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman received a few weeks ago a classified legal opinion that paves the way for making Arab areas of Israel part of a future Palestinian state.

The document’s authors concluded that the move would comply with international law on condition that it were done with the consent of the Palestinians, did not leave anyone without citizenship and included a mechanism for providing compensation, similar to the one used with Jewish settlers during Israel’s 2005 disengagement from the Gaza Strip.

IDF reports increase in Israeli Christian recruits

Even though there are only about 300 Christian Arabs serving in the IDF, 84 of them signed up in the last half of 2013, which is 3 times the average rate.

 

The past six months have seen a significant rise in the number of Arab Christians joining the Israel Defense Forces, although their number is still minuscule. The actions of people within the Arab Christian community to integrate their members into Israeli society may be behind the rise – actions that raise the ire of many others, who believe that army service is intended to strike a blow at Palestinian unity.

Some 30,000 Arab Israelis took part Friday in a rally titled “Al-Aqsa Mosque in Danger,” in the northern town of Umm al-Fahm. The event was organized by the northern branch of the Islamic Movement.
