REPORT: Russian PM declares support of Jewish connection to Jerusalem

In a TV2 report, Russian PM Medvedev says, “Our country never denied Israel’s or the Jewish people’s rights to Jerusalem, the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.”

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev spoke with Channel 2 about the Israel-Russia relationship.

During the interview Medvedev was asked about UNESCO’s decision to deny history and claim Israel has no connection to the Western Wall and other holy places in Jerusalem.

Jerusalem thanks Tanzania for assisting Israel during UNESCO anti-Jewish resolution

 

Thanks to Tanzanian President John Magufuli, references to the Jewish holy sites in Jerusalem, during the discussions of the 2nd UNESCO resolution, were more respectful, and Israel was not referenced solely as an occupying force.

Tanzania, a once unlikely ally, made a significant impact in softening the langauge in a recent United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) resolution disregarding Jewish ties with Jerusalem, which followed another that was passed the previous week.

Due to Tanzanian interventions during the discussions of the second resolution, references to Jewish holy sites in Jerusalem were slightly more respectful, and Israel was not referenced solely as an occupying force. Continue Reading »

The UNESCO decision passed Wednesday declaring the Temple Mount to be a Muslim site of worship was immediately countered by the Israel Antiquities Authority, which presented a document dating from the seventh century BCE — the First Temple period — in which the name “Jerusalem” clearly appears in ancient Hebrew script.

According to the authority, the papyrus document, which had been among the antiquities robbed from caves in the Judean Desert, represents the oldest external source found to date that cites Jerusalem. Continue Reading »

WATCH: Israel’s envoy responds to UNESCO’s Jerusalem resolution by throwing it into the trash

In a piece of diplomatic theatrics, Israel’s Ambassador to UNESCO Carmel Shama-Hacohen on Wednesday threw a copy of the Jerusalem resolution into a trash bin right after it was approved by the World Heritage Committee in Paris.

In attacking WHC’s approval of a text that ignored Jewish ties to the Temple Mount, he equated the Jerusalem resolution with the famous 1975 United Nations resolution that Zionism equals racism, “The fate of this resolution shall be no different than that of UN resolution 3379 adopted in 1975, which equated Zionism with racism. Palestinians threaten UNESCO not to oppose upcoming Jerusalem vote

The Palestinian Authority and the Jordanians have warned the 21-member states of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee not to oppose or abstain from a Jerusalem resolution on Wednesday in Paris.

The resolution, which refers to the Temple Mount solely by its Muslim name of Al-Haram Al Sharif, is expected to be approved by the committee at its 40th session.

Other countries took notice when Mexico’s envoy to UNESCO, Andrés Roemer, was fired for his integrity, and saw the outcry that moved his country to withdraw its support from the resolution erasing any connection of Judaism’s ties to the Temple Mount and Western Wall.

Japan, the 2nd-largest donor state after the US, says their actions to withhold payment is to make sure the UN body lives up to its founding purpose of promoting peace among member nations through education.

UNESCO Passes Resolution: Temple Mount and Western Wall exclusively Muslim

 

Only 6, the US, UK, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Germany & Estonia, of the 58 members of UNESCO, voted against the anti-Jewish, anti-Christian resolution.

In a 24-6 vote, UNESCO on Thursday gave its preliminary approval to a resolution that ignores Jewish ties to its most holy religious sites: the Temple Mount and the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Another 26 nations abstained and two were absent all together.

Historical discovery of Egyptian statue with hieroglyphic script found at Tel-Hazor

EU follows UNESCO lead to disregard Jewish connection with Temple Mount

 

In response to the Palestinian-Jordanian draft decision an Israeli official said the Europeans’ proposal also denies any Jewish connection to the Temple Mount, despite France’s apology & admission of error in supporting last April’s UNESCO proposal that did the same.

The Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem is fuming over a draft decision distributed on Thursday by representatives of the European Union at meetings of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee in Istanbul on the subject of the Israeli capital’s Old City that completely ignores the Jewish connection to the site.
