Arab Knesset members will be questioned on suspicion of incitement against a religious leader who encouraged Christian teens to enlist in the army, Ynet learned Wednesday.

Carmiel Official: 600 Families Need Housing Now

600 families are waiting for housing in Carmiel to become available.

There is a desperate shortage of public housing in the city of Carmiel in northern Israel, and if something is not done soon, some families on the waiting list may take “extreme measures,” Deputy Mayor of Carmiel Rina Greenberg warned Wednesday in an interview with Arutz Sheva.

Most of the roughly 600 families waiting for public housing are immigrant families, she said. Some have been waiting for as long as 15 years.

In the meantime, the families receive a housing stipend from the government, but it often does not cover the cost of rent. Continue Reading »

JERUSALEM — Egypt, amid major unrest in the country, has moved troops and armored vehicles to the Sinai-Gaza border area in coordination with Israel.

Egyptian SecurityThe movement on Tuesday comes as the Egyptian military issued an ultimatum to Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, calling on him to step down or face an escalation of the protests against his government. Millions of Egyptians already have taken to the streets to protest Morsi’s rule.

Under the 1979 peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, Egypt must coordinate troop movement in the Sinai with Israel.

For 33-year-old Joshua Godfrey, studying the farming models of Israel’s kibbutzim firsthand has provided the framework he needs to open a permaculture orphanage back home – on the outskirts of Chennai, southeastern India.

US de-classified intel: Argentina sold uranium ‘yellowcake’ to Israel

A comprehensive article released by the Foreign Policy magazine alleged that Israel struck a deal with Argentina in the 1960s to purchase between 80 to 100 tons of yellowcake – uranium powder – necessary for the production of a nuclear bomb.

The American magazine noted that this latest discovery solves the enigma of how Israel acquired the material to turn its burgeoning nuclear program military-grade.

The article, which cited 42 documents recently de-classified by the United States, recounted the beginning of Israel’s hazy nuclear project, starting with the French aid in building the Dimona reactor, formally known as the Negev Nuclear Research Center. Continue Reading »

Canada thwarts al-Qaida-inspired terror plot to bomb event on Canada Day

SURREY, British Columbia – Canadian police said on Tuesday they foiled an al-Qaida-inspired plot to detonate three pressure-cooker bombs during Monday’s Canada Day holiday outside the parliament building in the Pacific coast city of Victoria, arresting a Canadian man and woman and seizing their home-made explosive devices.

Police said there was no evidence to suggest a foreign link to the planned attack, which targeted public celebrations outside the parliament building in Victoria, capital of the province of British Columbia.

IDF Hummer overturns in Galilee- driver injured

 

Investigation launched after driver loses control of field vehicle during training exercise; sources say she was driving longer hours than IDF protocol permits.

Following a Monday incident in which a Hummer driver sustained light injuries as the Hummer she was driving overturned, anonymous sources told Ynet that the driver was behind the wheel for a longer period of time than IDF protocol permits. The IDF said an investigation into the circumstances was launched.

JERUSALEM  — Ben Zygier, the Australian-Israeli national who allegedly was a Mossad agent, hid from prison guards his intent to commit suicide, Israel’s Prosecutor’s Office said.

Information from classified transcripts in the case of Zygier, or Prisoner X as he was known at the time of his suicide by hanging in an Israeli prison in December 2010, were published Tuesday in the Israeli daily Haaretz.
