Jewish Orthodox woman picked for Biden’s National Security Council 

Anne Neuberger, the National Security Agency’s director of the U.S. Cyber Command since 2019, is said to be named deputy national security adviser for cybersecurity in Biden’s incoming National Security Council.

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden is expected to appoint Anne Neuberger, an Orthodox Jewish woman, to serve in a newly created cybersecurity position on the U.S. National Security Council.

The expected pick was first reported by Politico on Wednesday. The Biden transition team and the National Security Agency declined to comment to the outlet about Neuberger’s expected appointment.

Anne Neuberger of Baltimore, an Orthodox Jewish woman, was tapped in 2019 to head the National Security Agency’s new Cybersecurity Directorate.

Report: Israeli intel-spies expose Russians using popular software to hack systems

In a NYT report, Israel’s cyber intelligence unit allegedly discovered Russian gov’t hackers manipulated Kaspersky Lab antivirus software, used globally by hundreds of millions of people including the U.S. government, to obtain sensitive info inside the U.S.

Israeli intelligence officials spying on Russian government hackers found they were using Kaspersky Lab antivirus software that is also used by 400 million people globally, including US government agencies, according to media reports on Tuesday.

REPORT: Iranian cyber spying group targets US, Israel, Saudi Arabia & Germany

ClearSky of Israel and the Tokyo-based Trend Micro say malicious hackers are using social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to dupe targeted victims in Saudi Arabia, Germany, the U.S. and Israel.

A cyber spying group with links to Iran is targeting countries including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Germany and the United States, security researchers said on Tuesday.

Turkish Journalist Protest ‘Humiliation’ by Security Personnel at Israel Cyber Conference

 

Turkish journalists were appalled at the excessive and offensive treatment they were required to endure at the hands of Israeli security agents at the entrance to the Cyber Conference, just as ‘Israeli and Turkey are trying to normalize relations.’

Three Turkish journalists complained on Tuesday of excessive and offensive behavior towards them carried out by Israeli security staff at Israel’s Cyber Week 2017.

In a letter obtained by The Jerusalem Post‘s sister publication Maariv, economy editor of the Daily Sabah, Seyma Eraz explained that she, Kenan Ozcan, and Emre İzkübarlas from Fox Turkey were invited by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Israeli consulate in Istanbul to cover Cyber Week 2017, taking place at Tel Aviv University. Israel must take into account that their different intelligence agencies are not 100% invincible – that in this ongoing battle between state attackers or ‘lone wolf’ vs the defenders, the attacker usually has the upper hand.

Even the fact that a Samsung refrigerator can be used as a listening device that records voices in its vicinity is not new. Israeli missile boats modified to repel naval cyber ‘intrusions’ by foreign military vessels

 

Israel’s Navy is equipping its missile boats with crews & electronics that will safeguard the country’s shores from probing cyber encroachments.

Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov has recently arrived at the shores of Syria accompanied by its companion vessels. The ships are in the area as a deterrent measure, but also in order to collect intelligence via electronic means. As a response, the Israeli Navy has upgraded its cyber warfare capabilities, placing special crews onto its missile boats.

Israel Aerospace Industries signs $15 million global cyber protection for Asian client 

 

Israel’s multimillion dollar contract with one of its major Asian clients is for the development of “advanced, national level, strategic cyber solution,” to deal with current and future global cyber challenges.

Israel Aerospace Industries has announced that it has signed a $15 million contract with one of its major Asian clients for the development of by cyber security solutions.

A statement posted on IAI’s website said the contract is “for an advanced, national level, strategic cyber solution, which combines cellular systems and cyber and includes establishing an intelligence center and infrastructure and providing unique sensors.”

eBay ignores serious security flaw exposed by Israeli cybersecurity firm

 

Despite being alerted by Israeli firm of flaw leaving 160 million worldwide  users vulnerable to malware & phishing attacks, eBay says it “has no plans to fix” the problem.

Israeli cybersecurity firm Check Point revealed Tuesday that is has discovered a serious flaw in online e-commerce giant eBay’s security, allowing hackers and cyber criminals to use malicious code to target users and steal their online information.

According to Channel 2 News, eBay currently has 160 million registered users worldwide, all of which are at risk.

Check Point, which posted its discovery on the company blog, believes that unless eBay acts to rectify this vulnerability immediately, “eBay’s customers will continue to be exposed to potential phishing attacks and data theft.”

WSJ report thinks Israel spied on hotels which hosted P5+1 nuclear talks

Wall Street Journal reports cybersecurity experts guessing that the detected viral spyware may have been used by Israel.

Cybersecurity experts believe that Israel is most likely the party responsible for a wave of espionage targeting hotels used by negotiators in the P5+1-Iran nuclear talks, The Wall Street Journal is reporting on Wednesday.

According to counterhacking experts quoted by the Journal, analysts at a cybersecurity firm discovered traces of a viral software that is widely believed to have been used by Israel in the past to conduct sophisticated digital espionage.

The company, Kaspersky Lab ZAO, conducted an investigation which revealed that it had been targeted by an “improved version” of Duqu, a spyware that American officials believe has been used by Israel in the past to hack into computer systems. Continue Reading »
