REPORT: al-Qaida’s Nusra Front unites 8 Syrian Islamist groups near Israel’s border

Israeli expert estimates that al-Qaida’s Nusra Front is afraid of taking the predominantly Druse village of Hader near Israel’s border, because it fears an IDF response from the Jewish state.

 

Eight Islamist groups active near Israel’s border in southern Syria have united into one bloc as the country’s Druse come under increasing pressure.

IDF Declare Northwest Area of Golan Heights “Closed Military Zone”

Civilians who are not local residents cannot travel in the area because of the intensive battles between Assad forces & rebels on the Syrian side of the border.

The IDF and Israel Police declared a section of the north east of the Golan Heights a closed military zone on Tuesday.

The decision means civilians who are not local residents, such as tourists, cannot travel in the area.

Signs of oil on Israel’s Golan Heights Reports Drilling Firm From Exploration Site

Sirens Automatically Activated When Syria Fired 2 Mortars Into Northern Israel

IDF officials confirm mortars were probably ‘spillover’ from fighting in Syrian Golan, where heavy battles have been ongoing in recent hours.
• No injuries reported.

Two mortars fell in northern Israel early Tuesday afternoon, shortly after air raid sirens blared throughout the area of Kibbutz Ein Zivan in the northern Golan Heights, warning of fire from Syria. Local residents reported hearing blasts in the area shortly after.

The mortars landed in an open area near orchards and a UN base.  The IDF has confirmed that the two mortars were errant fire from battles raging in Syria, near the border with Israel, and not an intentional attack.

Syrian gunfire lightly wounds IDF officer in Golan Heights

The IDF did not return fire following the slightly wounding of an officer, part of an Engineering force attempting to extricate a stuck bulldozer.

An IDF officer was lightly wounded by a gunshot fired from Syria on Tuesday evening. The officer was treated at the scene in the northern Golan Heights and did not need to be evacuated from the scene.

Israel Defense Minister: Iran planning to open front against Israel from Golan Heights

 

While visiting IAI’s Missiles & Satellites plant, Defense Minister Ya’alon says Israel’s satellites in space are able to track distant threats, particularly Iran’s.

IDF Deploys Iron Dome in Northern Israel to Neutralize Hezbollah & Iranian Threats

 

Sky News Arabic reports of Israeli anti-missile system deployment in light of possible retaliation for purported IAF strike that killed 6 Hezbollah members & 6 Iranian soldiers.

In the aftermath of an alleged Israeli strike Sunday on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights, the IDF reportedly deployed a number of Iron Dome air defense batteries to the North on Monday evening, according to foreign media.

Israel’s Defense Minister Yaalon refuses to confirm IAF airstrike that reportedly killed Jihad Mughniyeh, son of former Hezbollah leader Imad Mughniyeh.

Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon refused to say anything Sunday evening about the reported IAF strike in the Syrian Golan that killed Jihad Mughniyeh, a senior Hezbollah man whose father, Imad Mughniyeh, was also assassinated by Israel.

However, Yaalon did respond to the reports from Hezbollah about the incident, and said that they contradicted Hezbollah’s own official claims, made in recent years, that they do not operate in the Golan.

Son of Imad Mughniyeh and 5 members of Hezbollah killed in IDF airstrike in Syria

Six Hezbollah terrorists, including the son of former Hezbollah chief Imad Mughniyeh, killed in attack near Quneitra, Syria, preparing to attack Israel.

The son of former Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh along with five other terrorists were killed in an alleged Israeli air strike in Syria on Sunday, Hezbollah-linked media reported.

Sources linked to the Islamist organization said that Jihad Mughniyeh, who oversaw the Syrian Golan Heights division of the group, was killed in the attack.

“Hezbollah’s leadership will decide how to respond to this new Israeli aggression, but this strike is unthinkable,” a statement from the group read, according to the Al-Akhbar news site.

AFP cited an Israeli security sources as saying the strike had targeted purported terrorists who were planning an attack on the Jewish state.

Preparatory work began at a Golan Heights exploratory oil drilling site on Tuesday morning – advancing a project that was temporarily delayed by environmental opposition.

The project, which is being conducted by Afek Oil and Gas, involves three years of exploration for conventional oil using up to 10 wells. Syria Claims to Have Downed ‘Unmanned Aircraft of the Zionist Regime’

 

 

 

Hezbollah media reports that Syria shot down an Israeli drone over the Syrian Golan Heights.

IDF reaction: We don’t respond to foreign reports.

Arab media reported on Sunday night that Syria had downed an Israeli drone in the Golan Heights.

According to the report, which appeared on Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television and on official Syrian TV, an “unmanned aircraft of the Zionist regime was downed over the skies of Quneitra, close to the border.”

In response, the IDF said, according to Channel 2 News, that “the IDF does not respond to foreign reports.”

Lightning Sets Golan Heights Ablaze

Golan Heights fire broke out after a lightning strike, but nature reserve personnel were quick to explain how the area will rehabilitate itself with most of the forest green again in few months.

A wildfire in the Golan Heights caused by lightning, which raged for 12 hours until it was extinguished Saturday afternoon, has destroyed 750 acres of forested land, and killed numerous wild animals.

The fire broke out on Friday at around 10pm, following the lightning strike.
