Last week Shanghai opened park honoring 20,000 Jewish Holocaust refugees

 

Life in Shanghai was marked by its own political tensions during the 1930’s & 1940’s, but the Chinese welcomed the Jewish refugees. “As bad as we had it, they had it worse. And they felt bad for us,” recalls Jerry Moses.

Beginning in 1938, as Jewish persecution by the Nazis went into high gear, approximately 20,000 Jewish refugees fled to Shanghai, one of the few safe havens in the world that did not require a visa.

German prosecutors seek 3.5 years’ jail for 94 yr-old ‘Bookkeeper of Auschwitz’

FBI chief announces Holocaust education mandatory for new agents

Jewish group petitions Poland for safe return of Torah scrolls hidden in monastery

The Depths Holocaust commemoration organization seeks to retrieve 35 Torah scrolls stolen by Polish priest 70 years ago in his bid to decipher “hidden secrets.”

Thirty-five Torah scrolls were recently discovered in Polish monastery, where they have been hidden since the Holocaust.

It is believed the scrolls, which represent a significant historical find, were stolen over 70 years ago by a local priest, a known anti-Semite who sought to uncover secrets believed to have been hidden by Jews in the sacred books.

Argentinian biographer sues Yad Vashem Holocaust museum over Oskar Schindler’s papers

Israel’s national Holocaust museum is being sued by an Argentinian woman over the ownership of a suitcase containing copies of the lists of Jews Oskar Schindler saved from certain death.

Police in Holland stop vendor from selling ‘Holocaust soap’, said made from Jewish bodies

NRC website reports vendor being investigated for attempting to sell soap online for 199, along with dentures, tooth brushes and glasses from Jewish victims of the Nazis.

The Dutch newspaper NRC reported Wednesday that police in north Holland are investigating an antiquities vendor who reportedly attempted to sell soap that had been made during the Holocaust, which he claimed was made from bodies of Jewish victims killed in Nazi extermination camps.

Soap reportedly from Holocaust was being sold online.

The vendor reportedly attempted to sell the soap for 199 euro.

The troubling news came from historian Arthur Haraf, who said the vendor offered to sell objects that he found near a concentration camp, from which Dutch Jews were sent to extermination camps.

Congressman Adel El Zabayar, a member of Venezuela’s National Assembly, told the Hezbollah-sponsored Al Manar TV headquartered in Lebanon that: “In order to understand what is happening today in the Middle East and what happened in the world in the First and Second World Wars we must examine the original Zionist conspiracy If we look into who financed Hitler before WWII we will see that the main financiers were the Zionists.”

Polish Officials Target Desecrated Jewish Cemetery for Housing Project

A Jewish cemetery in Grodzisk, originally destroyed during the Holocaust & is now partly used as a junkyard & storage site, is currently targeted, as residential building plans threaten its very existence.

The Jewish community of Poland is working urgently to try and save the Jewish cemetery in Grodzisk, after the city’s council began work on a construction project in the northern part of the city where the graveyard is located, putting it in direct danger.

Holocaust heirs sue Swiss bank for selling family artwork without consent

Rather than looking for surviving relatives to deliver proceeds from art sales, Swiss banking giant USB is accused of exploiting family name in creating a bogus foundation.

 

Heirs of a German-Jewish couple whose vast art collection was confiscated by the Nazis have filed lawsuits against a Swiss bank they accuse of cheating them out of their inheritance.

The lawsuits were filed recently in New York and Switzerland against global banking giant UBS and a foundation it controls, the New York Times reported on Friday.

According to the relatives of Ludwig and Margret Kainer, the bank claimed to be acting on behalf of the couple’s heirs, but instead channeled proceeds from art sales and German reparations to a foundation created by Swiss bank officials. Continue Reading »

The personal effects of victims, including wedding rings, were found near gas chambers where some 250,000 Jews were murdered at the German built Sobibor death-camp in Poland, which the Nazis bulldozed & covered up with trees to conceal their crimes.

An archaeological dig in Poland has revealed the location of the gas chambers at the Sobibor death camp, Yad Vashem announced on Wednesday.

Some 250,000 Jews were murdered at Sobibor, but on October 14, 1943, about 600 prisoners revolted and briefly escaped. Between 100 and 120 prisoners survived the revolt, and 60 of those survived the war. Continue Reading »

British chief whip: Europe has forgotten the Holocaust – fanning the flames of anti-Semitism.

Michael Gove, the UK Chief Whip, says far from eradicating the hatred of Jews, anti-Semitism in Europe is now considered ‘chic’ by some.

 

Europe has forgotten the warning of the Holocaust and is plagued by a “virus” of anti-Semitism, Chief Whip Michael Gove said, adding that the hatred of Jews has attained a “radical chic” in certain circles, U.K. daily The Telegraph reported.

In his address to the annual dinner of the Holocaust Education Trust, Gove also accused pro-Palestinian activists of a “deliberate” campaign of “relativisation, trivialization and perversion” of the Holocaust by comparing the Israeli government to the Nazis, warning that this campaign is fanning the flames of anti-Semitism.
