Israel’s offshore gas-fields to be protected by ‘Barak-8 Dome’

 

Following third & final series of successful tests, Israel’s offshore gas interests will shortly receive the advanced Barak 8 missile defense system to counter all foreign threats.

Head of the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) told Israeli press Wednesday that the newly developed ‘Barak 8’ system which will be installed on Israeli naval ships will be able to protect Israel’s offshore gas assets.

India successfully test-fired on Wednesday the Barak 8, a new long range surface-to-air missile capable of countering aerial threats at extended ranges, which was jointly developed with Israel.

The Israel Aerospace Industries, which held a successful test of the Barak 8 missile last month, said that the two tests held by the Indian Navy on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning complete a series of three consecutive tests which “reinforces the impressive operational capabilities of the system,” said IAI director Yossi Weiss. An Israeli system that protects planes from surface-to-air missiles has passed a test conducted by NATO, which could open up new markets for the technology in the alliance’s 28 member states, defense electronics manufacturer Elbit Systems said Monday.

The system, which can jam incoming heat-seeking missiles with a laser, is already in use by civilian Israeli carriers.

MUSIC, or Multi Spectral Infrared Countermeasures, is a family of high-performance, directed infrared countermeasure systems, which are integrated with other advanced, passive airborne warning systems to protect aircraft against heat seeking surface-to-air missiles and shoulder-launched rockets. The City of Tel Aviv-Yafo announced on Monday an agreement to assist in creating ‘smart cities’ around India.

In partnership with the Mumbai-based NGO Delivering Change Foundation (DCF), Israeli representatives were slated to mentor, train, consult and escort Indian city officials with technological urban transformation.

Israel Military Industries (IMI) will display its new Guided Mortar Munition – which are already in service in the IDF – at an international defense exhibition in Brazil this week.
