Google chief: Israel’s tech 2nd only to America’s Silicon Valley

Formerly Google chief executive Eric Schmidt says, “For a relatively small country, Israel has a super role in technological innovation.”

A top Google official on Tuesday hailed Israel’s tech sector, saying it trailed only Silicon Valley in the United States when it comes to “initiatives.”

Eric Schmidt, formerly Google chief executive and now executive chairman of its parent company Alphabet, said Israel, a country of only around eight million people, was punching far above its weight in technology.

In ancient Egypt, missing teeth were sometimes replaced with carved seashells or pebbles anchored in the jawbone. Modern implant dentistry is a lot more sophisticated, but the basic idea is the same: placing an artificial root into the jawbone to hold a replacement tooth (crown).

Israeli elementary school near Gaza generates its own electricity

 

Nitzanei Eshkol elementary school near the Gaza border has completed construction of a solar power network that completely meets all the school’s needs.

This week, Nitzanei Eshkol, an elementary school in the Eshkol Regional Council near the Gaza Strip, began operating an electrical system powered entirely from solar energy. This system is expected to meet the school’s energy demands in their entirety.

After long months of planning and installing solar panels, the construction ceased this week, and connecting the new system was successfully completed. The environmentally conscious school’s pupils led the excitement: the first through sixth grades had been observing the process and learning about the environmental benefits of using solar energy for electricity. WATCH: Israel’s new helmet allows troops to see through their armored vehicles

Elbit Systems unveiled a helmet-mounted system on Wednesday designed to allow armored personnel carrier and tank crews to see straight through their armor.

The helmets give soldiers a 360-degree, real-time view of their surroundings while in the vehicle.

Called IronVision, the system has attracted the interest of the IDF, which may choose to acquire it. If it does, the product would represent a significant leap in the capability of personnel in closedhatched armored fighting vehicles to identify threats, as well as friendly forces. Jesus’ Tomb in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre Begins Historic Renovation

 

The Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox and Armenian churches put aside their differences to engage in a $3.3 million project that will reinforce & preserve the Edicule, the ancient chamber housing Jesus’ tomb in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

A team of experts began a historic renovation on Monday at the spot where Christians believe Jesus was buried, overcoming long-standing religious rivalries to carry out the first repairs at the site in more than 200 years.

A rare cache of silver coins dating back to the Hasmonean period has been discovered in the central Israeli city of Modi‘in alongside the wall of an agricultural estate during an archaeological excavation, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) said Monday.

US Army selects Israeli firm to supply protection system for American APC

Japanese philanthropist dedicates $3 million planetarium in Netanya

REBIRTH: Madagascar community chooses to return to their Jewish heritage

 

Last month 121 men, women & children underwent Orthodox conversions on the remote Indian Ocean island nation of Madagascar, in an effort to secure their beliefs that they are of Jewish or Israelite descent, and that their founders were seafaring members of the Lost Tribes.

Antananarivo – A nascent Jewish community was officially born in Madagascar last month when 121 men, women and children underwent Orthodox conversions on the remote Indian Ocean island nation better known for lemurs, chameleons, dense rain forests and vanilla.

Israel’s drip irrigation giant opens first manufacturing plant in China

13 Yr-Old Israeli Girl Invents Satellite System That Produces Oxygen

 

Roni Oron, from Ramat Hasharon, Israel, won the “Satellite is Born” competition hosted by the Israel Space Agency, with a satellite that has the potential to create oxygen in space.

A 13-year-old Israeli girl has invented a system for the production of oxygen in space, the Hebrew youth paper Ma’ariv L’Noar reported on Thursday, along with an interview with the budding teen scientist from Ramat Hasharon.
