COVID Breakthrough? Israel claims 99.9% of virus killed in 30 seconds

This study conducted at the Tel Aviv University has proven that 99.9% of the COVID-19 virus can be killed cheaply and within 30 seconds by using UV light-emitting diodes (UV-LEDs) at specific frequencies.

By MAAYAN JAFFE-HOFFMAN

Ultraviolet radiation is a common method of killing bacteria and viruses. Now, researchers from Tel Aviv University have proven that the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, can be killed efficiently, quickly and cheaply using ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting diodes (UV-LEDs) at specific frequencies.

“We discovered that it is quite simple to kill the coronavirus using LED bulbs that radiate ultraviolet light,” said Prof. Hadas Mamane, head of the Environmental Engineering Program at Tel Aviv University’s School of Mechanical Engineering, who led the study with Prof. Continue Reading »

Using nanoparticles Israeli mask 98% effective, washable, reusable

What originally started as an Israeli startup, quickly became a commercial business manufacturing anti-viral face masks with a unique anti-pathogen fabric for the U.S. market by using sound waves to infuse nanoparticles into the fabric.

By MAAYAN JAFFE-HOFFMAN

The Israeli startup Sonovia, which sped up efforts to manufacture masks using its anti-pathogen fabric at the start of the coronavirus crisis in Israel, has launched commercial sales.

The company’s technology is based on a lab-scale sonochemical process that was developed at Bar-Ilan University. Sonovia started manufacturing its product in March at a plant near Nahariya when Israel had only 200 patients, and has sold 30,000 masks. Continue Reading »

BREAKTHROUGH: Israel finds antibody that neutralizes coronavirus

According to a statement by Israel’s Defense Ministry, the Israel Institute for Biological Research “is the first institution to achieve a scientific breakthrough that meets all three” of the parameters needed.
– Collaborating with the town of Yeroham, a planned vaccine production facility will ensure Israeli self-sufficiency for both regular routine vaccinations and in cases of a pandemic.

Israeli farmers’ innovation with declining bee population is mechanical pollinator

Israeli expert says, “As the bee population is declining, global agriculture needs a solution which doesn’t rely on bees anymore but which will either supplement or eventually replace the bees.”

By  Reuters, Israel Hayom Staff

A mechanical hum replaced the buzz of the bees in one Israeli almond orchard this season as farmers, concerned over the global decline of bee populations, tried a new method to pollinate their crops.

Through the blooming almond trees near the ancient site of Tel Arad in a desert plain in southern Israel, a tractor pulled a mast equipped with about a dozen small cannons that precisely shot pollen at the trees, allowing them to fertilize. Continue Reading »

Israel Kibbutz volunteers mass-produce reusable masks of all sizes

The Israeli masks, with sizes to fit adults, kids or men with full beards, are made of high-density cotton which can be disinfected in a 60° C laundry cycle for almost unlimited reuse, as global demand has made single-use masks scarce, or too overpriced.

By Reuters

Israel is heading off shortages of disposable surgical masks during the coronavirus crisis by mass-producing washable versions sized to fit everyone from children to bearded men who shun shaving due to their religion.

As part of stepped-up precautions against the virus, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government on Sunday made it compulsory for Israelis to cover their mouths and noses while in public. Continue Reading »

Israeli Expert Confirms: Trump Was Right, Corona Panic Overblown

US President Trump’s initial instinct to assess the pandemic as less lethal caught many by surprise, but he wasn’t wrong about corona death rates says an Israeli medical engineer whose team developed predictive protocols that helped curb the 2014-2015 Ebola epidemic for African nations.

By Israel Today Staff

US President Donald Trump came under intense criticism for his initial dismissal of the coronavirus as little more than a bad flu outbreak. But an Israeli expert says Trump wasn’t far off the truth, at least in regards to expected fatality rates.

Israeli scientist from the U. of Haifa discovers microplastics in milk

A simple experiment conducted by Dr. Noam van der Hal, a PhD in Environmental Sciences, revealed small fragments of plastics are ever-present in the environment and are found in many of our consumer products.

By Dominik Doehler, ZAVIT* Environment and Science News Agency

An Israeli scientist has found the presence of tiny plastic particles in three different kinds of milk, as experts are becoming increasingly concerned about potential long-term health implications.

Numerous international research studies have demonstrated that microplastics (defined by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as any plastic fragment less than 5 mm long) have found their way into almost every ecosystem on Earth as well as products for human consumption, such as fish, salt, and beer.
