Russian officials in Jerusalem seeking closer ties with Israel on Syrian unrest

 

In a new strategy that may end Syrian unrest, senior Russian parliamentarians meet with the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee members in Jerusalem, seeking closer cooperation based on Israeli influence inside Syria.

Russia wants to increase cooperation with Israel regarding Syria, and would like Jerusalem to use any influence it has to get opposition groups there to lay down arms and enter negotiations, Konstantin Kosachev, a senior Russian parliamentarian, told The Jerusalem Post.

Kosachev, who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, the upper house of Russia’s parliament, was in the country on Tuesday and Wednesday with Viktor Ozerov, the chairman of the Federation Council’s Defense and Security Committee, for meetings with the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. Wanted Hamas Militant Leader Killed in Gaza in ‘Accidental’ Explosion

 

51 yr-old Ibrahim Hussein Abu al-Naja, wanted by the IDF for being a leader of Hamas’s armed wing, was finally ‘done in’ by an “accidental” explosion in Gaza.

A prominent leader of Hamas’ Izzadin Kassam brigade was killed Wednesday in an “accidental” explosion in southern Gaza, according to PA news outlet Ma’an.

The explosion occurred at a Hamas post near Rafah, injuring three other militants, according to the Palestinian news agency.

Lebanese authorities banned the new Wonder Woman movie Wednesday hours before it was due to premiere in the capital Beirut following a campaign against its lead actress, Gal Gadot, who served in the Israeli army, a security official and activists said.

A premiere scheduled for Wednesday was cancelled at the last minute as the ban began to take hold.

Top Fatah official Jibril Rajoub on Thursday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to hold off from moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

“This is a responsible and rational decision,” Rajoub told The Jerusalem Post in a phone interview. “The American president clearly understands that the issue of Jerusalem is complex and should be resolved in the framework of a final agreement.”
